i had a go on dan anderson 122 in a few different conditions from 12 to 20 knots and was really impressed it planned nice and early in light wind on a 16m and i weigh 82 kg, i liked the flx it has and it so light, i ordered a 132 but probably could almost get away with the 122, my opion excellent boards

I have one and it IS the best board I have ridden. Really smooth and unbelievebly light. The board, as the name suggests, has distinct flex in its action which is awsome for loading up. It also planes really early. Only a couple of down sides: it scratches fairly easily and it has a picture of New Zealand on it. But scratches happen to all boards and you can always cover the picture of NZ with a sticker!
It is pretty slidey so consider replacing the standard 40mm fins with 50mm...i heard that all undergrounds will now come with 50mm fins from now on so it may be alright if you buy new.
Comparing the board price with with other boards its actually quite cheap. SOS has them i think for about 950?? Not entirely sure so just ask.
If you see me about ill give you a go if youre keen.
By the way, I weigh about 65kg and get planing on a 16.5 in a bit above 10 knots. My mate weighs about 85kg and is considering getting the 122 instead of a 132 flx because he can getting planing on a 14m in under 15knots quite comfortably. I havent tried the larger boards but I reckon they would be pretty good in lighter winds.

underground flxs seem pretty popular. but have u tried the 2005 x-pact from airush. come in a 122, 127 and 135. same construction and really light and same sort of bucks . drop past airborne for a free demo well worth a look. hope it helps.

When I return to Perth in September for a holiday I looked up Pete and tested one of his new CAT boards.

I agree with Carl, these new boards are excellent and well worth a demo. I have now been using the CAT 130 for the last 5 weeks and I am very pleased with the performance in waves, flat water and chop.

It also has very good low wind qualities due to the early planning and speed of the board.

Ryland

Are there major differences between the Protoy and the X-Pact?
They look quite similar in the photos. Have you tried both? Which would be better for waves?

Thanks

The biggest difference is in the rails. The X-pact has ABS rails so while being super durable and being able to come into contact with hard surfaces with little or no damage, it's rails are not as soft as the Pro Toy or the Switch and will therefore catch a little more. The Protoy and switch have concave and the X-Pact doesn't.

I personally love the Switch in the waves, a little bit bigger board, a little bit smaller kite - perfect.

Best bet, as Ryland suggested is to try the different boards at Airborne.

Don't forget Airborne has moved and are now hiding at the rear of 11 Howe Street, Osborne Park, only a couple of minutes off the freeway on your way to work. (now open at 8.00am M-F)

Thanks,

Ian

the x-pact has a flat bottom and square rails so it is aimed more at freestyle. but with the abs rails you can file them down about 5mm or so to you desired shape without effecting the strenghth, which i found makes a lot of difference in the waves. also in the 2005 range are a 127 and 137 pro toy which they didnt have last season. but hey i loved the 119 pro toy which i rode for the whole of last season. i have only had the x-pact for a few weeks and i think it rocks. but why not try them both out it dont cost anything and then at least you get the right board for your personel style and use.

how do you guys find your feet fit into the underground foot straps, ie; im only 173cms.... so my feet aren't that big, and from what i understand the straps are not adjustable, and the pads are friggen ginormous and go from one side of the board to the other... so much so i recon they'd almost drag in the water when your cutting hard..... has anyone else had similar probs with small feet, ie all the boards come with no or half assed adjustment thats ment to fit a size 12 and a size 6? and the pads obviously are all massive

ALSO CONSIDER LIQUID FORCE.
THEY BEEN MAKIN WAKEBOARDS FOR A LONG TIME AND THEY MAY HAVE A SLIGHTLY HEAVIER BOARD, BUT THEY ARE TOUGH AS NAILS AND THE PAINT DOESNT SCRATCH OFF AFTER 5 SESSIONS.
I HAVE FOUND THEY ARE JUST FUN TO RIDE. THE MLF IS FLAT OUT AND FUN, THE DROP SERIES I HEAR ARE GREAT IN WAVES BUT A BIT SLOWER ( I AM GUESSING DUE TO THE SINGLE CONCAVE DEPTH COMPARED TO THE MLF'S DUAL CONCAVE WHICH HAS A SHALLOWER DEPTH)
THERE ARE HEAPS OF GOOD SHAPES OUT THERE, I JUST RECON U WANNA THINK ABOUT WHERE U RIDE MOST, WHAT U WANNA DO, AND HOW LONG TILL U NEED TO BUY A NEW ONE.

I have only demod a Kaos board but it seemed to have a lot of flex. I loved riding it and will probably get one when my current board finally gives out. Nice and light and felt nice in the chop and on the waves. They are a bit cheaper too (about $800 i think) as he just is a Perth local..this might make it easier for repairs. He can make them custom too. I think a couple of guys in Perth have them to check on their durability.

All the other boards mentioned look good too though.

Yes the Kaos boards have heaps of flex. Karl seems to have dialled the flex issue ages ago. Im not sure of thickness, but they look as though they are only about 0.75-0.8 cm throughout, hence the flex. Ive had one for about a year and theyre as tough as nails and work well in both flat water and waves. Pity he does not do this as a full time job as there would be heaps more out there. You wont be disappointed if you can get him to make you one.

o.8cm.... that must be a mistake, thats wayyyyy to thin..... that means you feet screws are only 4mm into the board max, and if laminate is 2mm thick that means 4 mill core... that would snap for sure... probly more like 2 cm..... what do they weigh?

The boards are obviously thicker in the centre and as I said Im not sure of thickness, but they are really thin boards. They are carbon reinforced and have a formica bottom adding to strength.

If you want more details about Kaos boards, please e-mail me and Ill send you Karl's contact details as advertising seems to be frowned upon on this forum unless you are a sponsor, which is fair enough I guess!

can't get over how good the new Jamie Pro looks. If you're in the market for a new board don't miss this one. Wont go to detail just go see windsurfing Perth and check it out.
