Hello all,

I have just started kiteboarding. I have taken a few lessons, bought a kite and a board is on the way.

Somehow I don't think it is wise to learn to stay on board/afloat/alive on the surf beaches where I live (Northern Beaches,Sydney.)

So I am looking for tips on good and safe beginner spots near Sydney. I liked the feel of Dolls point where I had my lessons but apparently that gets very crowded which makes it dangerous again. I had a go at Lake Munmorah near budgewoi which is probably ideal (if there is wind...)

Any other good places ? What about tuggerah lake ? Myall lakes ? Port Stephens ? And south coast, Jervis bay maybe ?

Anyway, all info is welcome. I noticed this forum is a bit centered on WA so let me know if you think I am better off posting this somewhere else.

Thanks,

Rog.

There was a couple of good threads on this topic on www.kiteforum.com, but that is down at the moment. There were even a couple on this one if I recall correctly. Try the search facilities on both.

I haven't spent any time in your area since taking up kiteboarding but it looks sweet. I'd be keen to try the Myall lakes if the wind was right. I'll be passing through late January, might stop in for a look.

You probably know this already but have you tried San Souci just down the road from Dolls Point. There's usually the same amount of kiters there as dolls but the beach is alot longer which gives everybody more space, ideal place for newbies really as it gives you a chance to perfect your skills without worrying of getting in the way of the more experienced kiters.

As for Port Stephens theres a really good spot 'Winda Wopa' or somthing like that - not quite sure how its spelt but the wind was consistant through out the day. This was a couple of months back though so I'm not sure how its like these days.

Happy Kiting!!!

Thanks seaDog and GreenPat,

I tried searching other forums before but with kiteforum.com being dead (is it back alive yet ?) I was obviously not able to find anything there.

Someone else did post exactly the same thread a few days after me on this forum...

If you go past Myall lakes to Forster check out xshore (xshore.com.au) and the nice people there will point you in the right direction for excellent beginner kiting spots.
