Been kiting for about a year now and twice now I got unhooked after a fall in 20/25 knots.Impossible to hook again as chicken loop not big enough to put without hand pressure and only a small metal fix ring
on North 5th element bar.Got dragged slowly
but surely downwind and had to let go bar as
pull overwhelming.Advice please 1:to avoid
getting unhooked 2:what to do when it happens?

One good way to help is to use the depower strap and hall this all the way in so that the back lines are loose even when the chicken loop is 'on full' - usually helps

DO chin ups in your back yard to get stronger, so that with the kite parked and flared you can lift yourself up the bar to hook in.

get a bigger chicken loop

some people use a shackle and shackle the chicken loop to the harness hook- as long at the loop has a quick release of coarse-
ive got a elastic loop attached to my hook that does the same thing as the shackle

turn downwind (reduce apparent wind) and hook back in :)

Use a chicken bone or similar. North bar should come with one.

Put the kite to the edge of the wind window and drop the end of the kite into the water, this should slacken the lines enough to hook in and then relaunch the kite. my 2 cents worth

If your unhooked & holding the bar with both hands, fly the kite up to 12 o'clock & keep it steady. Put one hand right in the center of the bar (keep that kite steady) and grab the chicken loop quickly with the other hand & pull it down so the kite depowers, while your pulling down on the chicken loop, quickly hook it back in with that hand.
