Hi everyone,
This event is scheduled for February as a finale to the flat water season.
It will be a big, big downwinder, and these are some of the thoughts at the moment:
Need to be a member of Windsurfing SA with WSA sail number
A team event, with the overall time for a team of 2 being the slower time less the difference between the faster and slower time (buddy system). i.e. keep together and cross the line together
Need a buoyancy vest and mobile phone (old!) in a waterproof pouch.
Gates/buoys along the way and chase boat
Finish with a BBQ and event T-shirt
About $30-40 to cover costs
We need to get an idea of the number of people interested so that we know how much resources we should put into this.
Can we have a show of hands?

I am keen Richard, but my boss warned me that February is going to be bulk travel  . So I am tentative at this stage until I can secure the date. Muzza, you're more than welcome to use my stuff.

| I am on days off then so I think I will come up there for the weekend, just need a buddy, maybe another speed demon. i have a number but not on my sails, how about we just run our seabreeze names on our sails then we can relate to who is who and make it seem a bit more fun instead of serious. |

| will try and round up some of the barmera boys. i know a couple are interested. whats a membership cost . it really sounds like a fantastic idea. some of the fresh water boys will be packing it out there. im in as long as its 12-15kn as i dont own a barge. |

Thanks for your comments everyone. I actually did the run yesterday - it was great fun and gave me a bit of an idea on what we are in for. We do need to strike a balance between making it too complicated while making sure it is safe. I'll post some more details here soon now that we have a bit of an idea about numbers.
The event needs 15 knots or so of SW seabreeze - sometimes not easy to predict beforehand, unless a front has just come through. We might only have short notice of suitable conditions.
It's not a serious hard core race - just a chance to put some of this slalom gear to use. It's doable on bigger wave gear. I reckon the general principle is rig a bit bigger than normal, shift your harness lines forward a bit to avoid over-sheeting, lean back and hold on

| I will also be there for the weekend just need a sailing partner for the day, Great place to start from as I can drop the wife off at Marion shoping for the day. but buoyancy vest and waist harness just don't work ?? |

Hi everyone,
According to the Windsurfing SA calendar ( http://www.windsurfing.org/sa.htm ) this event is scheduled for 7th Feb, carrying over to the next windy Sunday. I think one of main problems we will face will be getting the solid seabreeze we require to match with the date of the event. We have 2 types of seabreezes on this part of the coast. If a front has come past in the last 1 - 2 days and the gradient wind is SW-S, we could predict a good seabreeze days beforehand. Perfect. Other times, a seabreeze can pop up without too much warning - not even the BoM can predict these ones well.
The best we can do is post a notice 9am Saturday morning about whether we are going to take a punt on the breeze, and get some feedback about who can make it to Seacliff on the Sunday. I hope this doesn't make it too hard for you country guys. We will start the event with a bit of figure 8 slalom until we get a solid 15 k at the start line. Then off we go.
It is our intention to have a boat follow the fleet, logistics permitting. If you have spouses/buddies who are going to pick you up at Semaphore, we might prevail on them to stop at one of the two gybe marks along the way and tick off people as they go past. We will fire up the barby at Semaphore when everyone is safely in. Event cost will determined closer to the day, but it won't be more than $30-40. We are just out to cover costs.
As far as equipment, we will need things as discussed in the first post. Not out to make things difficult, but that's the reality of organising competitive windsurfing. I have 4 buoyancy vests at home to loan on the day. Waist harness is OK (I think) if you have a tie on vest - the hook just sticks out. In reality, I don't think waisties have the hook much higher than a seat anyway. Carry a mobile phone (or VHS radio). Anaconda or similar have waterproof packs etc. Carry a bit of cash too - if you come ashore there are plenty of cafe strips to grab a latte while someone comes to pick you up :-)
More course details to follow.
Some good reports from the Ledge to Lancelin elsewhere on these forums - lets get a SA version going!
