Man that was awesome! Ned at WA Surf had me up on a board and out of the water in under 2 hours. Had a great 3 hour lesson today. I'm going to chuck a sickie this week so i can to another 3 hours. (sign of things to come I expect [}:)])

It was pretty light until about 1:30 so we just chilled on the beach waiting for it to pick up. Once it did start to blow it got up to near 25knots. It got to be a little too much for the 11m kite I was using. It's pretty cool to feel the power of these kites. Being just slightly overpowered is alright but too much more and it would be a bit nuts.

It's so much fun and actually not as difficult as I thought it would be. It's cool to start a new sport and start all over at the beginning. Time to order up some gear and get out there with you guys.

I can probably do Saturday. If the wind is good we can just meet down at the River or something. Seems like as good a place as any for a beer.

Yup, I'm another one new to kiting, have had lessons at Pinnas, got some gear, now just need to get back out there! I sense that I may be even more newbie than some who've replied to this topic - kite skills: fine, board ability: zero - but I'll get there! Would be good to go out with others, my kite buddy up and left for Gero (swear it was nothing I said...)

Hey everyone. I'm new to kiting too, but I've had the privilege of having a patient boyfriend to teach me. If you're having trouble with your board skills, always start off by pointing your board downwind to get going, rather than upwind so much, and lean on your back leg. This helped me heaps. As you pick up speed, then you can dig your board in more upwind, but dont forget kite position - bring it back up to midday if you're going too fast. I'm now riding upwind and yesterday I did my first turns, so I'm stoked on the season already. But the biggest thing is kite control. I saw a few at Melville on Saturday having trouble holding their kites in the strong wind and had to do use the emergency depower to land the kite on the beach. Just make sure you know how to fly the kite before you attempt to get on the board. The more flying time you get, the easier it will be when you get on your board. Good luck to all out there and don't give up!

I'm not a complete kook with one season under my belt, but still pretty ****. If anyone kites around Leighton/Swanbourne/Trigg let me know.

Swannys my new fav, but there's a few rocks out there for all you body draggers.

Hi Guys

Good to see there are a few people getting together. I am up for a kite and beer on Saturday if we can get some crew together. The wind is looking down at the mo but hopefully will pickup for us. At some stage in the future it would be good to start exploring the differest spots around here. Is anyone here heading to kite stock?

Word to the wise, Kitestock may be awesome good fun but there's going to be heaps of kiters there and guess where they're not going to be:)))) everywhere else.

Good opp to test heaps of different kites and maybe sponge some knowledge off gurus but how often do you see an empty beach on a windy day down here - bliss

It's encouraging to hear that I'm not the only one with board issues! Also, thanks for the advice, I'm sorta ok on the theory, it's putting it into practice that's the problem!! :)
Currently I'm making the drive to Shoalwater (Penguin Is) because it's comparatively flat and usually pretty quiet. Was there today (got a bit too windy for me), and will be there tomorrow I expect. Making the most of the wind before it disappears.

Is anybody keen for Melville tonight? I've got to go to Singapore tomorrow so I'd like to get out tonight. Wind should be alright by 3 or 4. I should be able to make ti before 5.

I'm back on Wednesday and it looks like I might be bringing the 20+ SSW winds with me. I'll be off work a while so I'm keen pretty much any time the wind is blowing until the 30th. Still a complete noob but keen and willing to drive just about anywhere for a good session and good company.

Anybody else not working during the afternoons?
