Hi Guys,

I am heading over to Canada in June and am planning to roadtrip it down the West Coast of the US for a few months in a camper before heading back to Canada to work the snow season.

Has anyone spent time doing this????? Would love to find out where there are some nice beachside camping grounds and SUP friendly waves anywhere in the US. I'd greatly appreciate any tips? Also any recommendations on where to buy a SUP in vancouver?

I have surfed a great deal of the northern Californian coast. I reckon there is no place better place on earth for the most amazing point breaks. I could give you a huge list. One better, go discover it yourself and have a ball.

I haven't surfed that coast, but mid last year drove from LA to San Fran. Great drive.

Being from WA, you will find the water cold in northern california, even in mid summer, so take or buy a good wettie. During summer you also get fog...it hangs out to sea, and then rolls in and out over the coast during the day. I'd also suggest that you take a few detours up into the redwood forests, just inland from the coast, especially if the coast is foggy as you get away from it. V beautiful.

If you don't already have one, a GPS is a very worthwhile investment, and you will get something for about half the price we pay here in Oz.

Cheers Rosscoe! Will definatley buy a wettie over there. The cold water and I don't mix so well.

I think a GPS will help when driving in the cities over there for shure eh!

The only place to really surf in Canada is on Vancouver Island, mainly Tofino. To access more spots from there you will need a float plan or a boat. I surfed there in February a couple of years ago in 8 deg water, full suit, gloves, hood and booties. I don't know anywhere in Vancouver, but there are quite a few shops in Tofino that will have boards.

What resort are you doing the ski season at?

The California, Oregon and Washington Coasts all have good and for the most part reletivly uncrowded surf spots - check out wannasurf global surf maps as there's too many places to list.

I'm not sure where you'd get a SUP in Vancouver the only place I knew of that sold surfboards was Pacific Boarder and that was before SUP's took off but they'd be a good place to start, other one might be to see how much it would be to ship yours there or maybe the Global Industries site as they sell into the states as well.

And your probabaly going to want a 3mm (min) wetsuit as the water temp never gets up over 13° even in the middle of summer!
