I SUP Byron Bay Pass today for the first time

Looking forward to Thursday going for a SUP at Arrawarra just north of Coffs Harbour the surf sould be pumping thanks to the cyclone up north should be 6ft + of East swell with Southerly winds stoked can't wait to get my 8'6'' Woody Jack into some decent waves

I watched until 1 min 20 sec - the first 20 seconds of that was the stupid 'I'm a pro movie maker' rubbish.

First wave you dropped in on someone, second you totally paddled around the pack and showed no mercy to those inside and the fear on the faces of the line up when you stroked into the third wave was enough for me.

You're the type of guy that gives the sport a bad name my friend.

You wanna surf the pass - go get your surfboard and share or go down to Clarkes and SUP.

BTW, on you're way to Arra. Stop by Angourie so you can piss them off as well. Maybe a trip to Crescent as well - it'll have swell and south protection too.

I think your being a bit harsh , ive seen this fellow sup and he is in good controll of his board and is no danger to other surfers.As far as his pro - movie making goes i think it was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek.

I would like to see some footage with the cam on the nose of the board.

I think all this crap about you shouldnt sup here or their is a load of bull.As long as you are doing the right thing you should sup where and whenever you want.

HAHA maybe you should watch it again!!!!!! the guy on the first wave was too deep and fell of by the looks of it and i must have seen 20 guys in that vid who could hardly paddle let alone surf who would be 10 times the danger of Phil. Maybe if you come down from your high horse and watch it properly you'll see he is in total control and never falls or looks like hitting some one. Sorry mate i think you jumped the gun....

I can see he handles it well.

It's not him I'm worried about it's the kook surfing the pass who will get in the way and then blame the SUP as is the way regardless of who's at fault.

Perception is everything and the pass is just not a place for a SUP full stop - and I lived up your way for 4 years and spent a LOT of time surfing it to comment.

No doubt he's one of your Goldy QLD mates and good on ya' for defending him but no one's on a high horse

I agree but that's the narrow minded nature of surfers. The worst form of sportsperson on the planet and we ain't gonna change it and that's why we jumped off the bandwagon and took up SUP'ping to escape that crap but it's always gonna be against us and video's like this give them the slightest reason to whinge IMO.

.......and that's MY OPINION and if you don't like it I don't give a ****.

I have surfed some epic waves down here with maybe 2 or 3 surfers sharing. You don't post those sessions !

(And that's why I'm not in that inner sanctum that Makaha spoke of last week. Cause no one like's hearing the truth. It's all hot air and false kudos to some).

I reckon that's great you got out there. I'm not sure that the Pass is the best place for sups - I find it's often much more fun to paddle a couple 100 meters up the beach and own a little section for yourself.

I'm going to mark your post down though only cause you were not riding Annie and because you used a gopro - my peripheral vision is stuffed from years of looking at a computer screen and these cameras just don't work for me. I don't get any real sense of what's going on.

And don't worry about Surfanimals comments. You will find peeps who set themselves up as authority figures, without substance, on the forums never last long.

Tough view Surf Animal, the surf is 1-2ft, and he is surfing well consdering conditions (albeit on a SUP).... seems like a little green eyed envy that good SUP riders can get good waves....

Instead of flapping your chops, why dont you stick your own video up on Seabreeze and we can compare. !!!!

cool vid one of the best go pro ive seen they normaly mate me sea sick!
as for what surfanimals said i think he couldnt be more wrong as you looked liked you were taking off wide after people had fallen of or misted the wave totally fine to me and good surfing ,board looks good.

I enjoyed that - thanks.

What impressed me the most was how many people actually paddled for the inside broken part of the wave as you were coming down the line. Normally the pass is full of punters from the northern hemisphere who like to head for the shoulder and ruin your wave!! Things must be a changing up there......now we just need them to change down here in Manly!!!!!

yes I took my turn & al lot of waves went by because I let the shortboarders catchem & theyed miss them & yes I did drop in on a couple & all I did was take of & flick of + the pass is full of international KOOKs I even gave some a free surf lesson on how to paddle keep feet together & wear to sit so they could catch some waves ant other **** would have charged $70

yep looking forward to Arrawarra I haven't surfed there since 1982 on a MR twin fin with an easterly swell mid week it should be pumping for the SUP hopoefully get some good film Linda will be on the hill with movie camera I'll use gopro on head + board

I think you are taking all this to serious. I understand you dont know Phil but those that do know that Phil speaks his mind and some people like him for that and some don't..pretty much what you see is what you get. I bet if you meet him you would probably get along. I still think you looked at the vid all wrong but that your choice to see it how you like.

Too me there's allot worse people in the water to worry about Phil
