Does anyone have some insight into the major differences between theses 2 types of construction? Any input would be helpful.

I've used both and my understanding is the white board is carbon/wood and the yellow board is AST/wood.
I think the yellow board is slightly more durable and the white is slightly lighter.
They both paddle the same IMO and the slight weight difference is not really noticeable when on the water.
There is a few hundred dollars difference but the white boards do come with a board bag.. btw.. Balin are making board bags for the 14.
The AST stands for Advanced Sandwich Technology.. I think the AST is the one to get unless you don't mind paying the extra.

DJ mentioned to me that Balin are doing a cover for the 12 also. I would hazard a guess that you just ring them up direct, pay over the phone, and they would mail it out....
Try Ocean & Earth in NSW also. I assume they can do custom covers.... if you are not too far away from they factory in Sussex Inlet (Sth Coast NSW), you could always take your board in, they could trace it, and make a cover also. Ring first....
(Sorry Jenkz, just realised you were in WA).
