Looks like Saturday may be providing us with some reasonably rideable winds. As this is my 1st season of kiteboarding can someone with more experience give me an idea of how often we should expect good winds during winter? I have a wetsuit and am prepared to get cold but it just seems that those regular strong winds we had during summer have long gone. I know all abou sea breezes and why we get them etc etc but just want some idea of how often i can expect to pull the gear out over the next few months.

The big thing with winter for a lot of us, is the fact that there is no daylight saving and no chance of getting out after work. Big frontals and northerlies seem to come through a fair bit - but often not on weekends. Good northerlies can be fairly consistently, frontals are normally gusty, you just have to be ready to drop everything and chase the wind when it comes.

Unfortunately good winds during winter don't really happen. We get wind but whether it's good is another thing. As some of the guys have pointed out it's generally always frontal during the winter, which means gusty. It's pretty much all or nothing, as is happening Saturday. You'll get out on the water but don't expect the same consistent wind that the seabreezes deliver.

As for how often....maybe in the real throws of winter once or twice a week. Maybe less.
