anyone got any tips on riding blind. Everytime I try it (kite high) the board just slips out and I unwind. Time on water isn't helping by the way.

i found that the easiest way to ride blind is start from heel side with the kite at about 45 and just pop a little olly let go with your back hand ( this gives you better body rotation)as you rotate the board and look behind you. as you land put lots of weight over your back foot and realy stick your arse out as you lean over your back foot and straighten your front leg.
i dont rate blind at all cos i think it looks crap and there is nothing stylish about sailing along with your arse hangging out infront of you (unless you are as ugly as some of thoese east coast kiters)

wow damo i've never agreed with you more!

i always find i'm looking right down at my back foot, which keeps it stuck in and not slipping out. keeping the kite at 45 degrees so you don't loose power.

but once you're riding blind, quickly find a snazzy way to get out of it because it's hardly comfortable

Thanx fellas, I'm in the early stages of doing backside 3's, and every now and then I go into a 540, which I'd like to land properly. I promise I'll only ride blind for a few seconds, untill the crowd sits down again.

Surely the only purpose in blind riding is when you land a trick with a rotation blind.

This is of course very different to riding "when blind" after a beer bong session...

Or unless you have a nice bum.....
Well, agree that a dodgy blind looks pathetic, but I've seen guys landing blind and it looks perfectly gorgeous... It all comes down to style, really...
I'd like to be able to land blind, but the first step for that is getting to ride blind... so I'm currently looking very unaesthetical... Whatever!
my problem is that each time I pop to blind, I immediately lose power and stupidly... drown.....
what am I doing wrong???

Has anyone tried riding toeside unhooked and then passing the bar over to blind and adjusting stance.
That way you can be riding toeside fully powered up and then not losing too much speed when you pass to blind.
This is of course just to get used to riding blind so that you can land tricks to blind.

Hi Em,

Most likely cause of losing speed and "Drowning", is any one or a combination of these three things:-

1. Not keeping enough bar pulled in to keep the kite powered up. This is really common on kites with heavy bar pressure due to only having one hand to pull it in. Fix: Eat more weet bix and go to the gym

2. Bearing off the wind too much with the board (going downwind). This tends to reduce your apparent wind speed at the kite, effectively depowering the kite. Fix: put a little more pressure on your toeside edge and edge against the kite to help ride across the wind or even upwind.

3. Too much weight on your back foot stalling the board and reducing speed. Fix: stand a little more upright and weight your front foot a little more.

It's possibly a combination of a couple of these problems. Best place to learn blind is somewhere with smoothish water like Woodies, Melville or Pelican Point. I find it easier to olly to blind with plenty of speed, it's easier riding blind when you are going fast. Oh and make sure you are downwind of others whilst learning.

Hope this helps,

ALREADY THERE.... GOT BIGGER ARMS THAN MOST OF GUYS I KNOW!!! -HOPE JB DOESNT READ THAT ONE THOUGH!- LOL... PLUS I'M FLYING A REAL KITE SO NO BAR PRESSURE (I'M SOOOOOORRY... TRIED TO HOLD IT BACK BUT I COULDN'T RESIST...)

THAT SOUNDS PERFECTLY RIGHT... WILL TRY....

YUP, THERE'S A BIT OF THAT TOO...
THANKS HEAPS FOR THE TIP DARREN, WILL TRY THAT... RIGHT NOW!!!

It's possibly a combination of a couple of these problems.
VERY TRUE... SOUNDS LIKE YOU'VE BEEN DOING THIS BEFORE... COULD BE THINKING YOU'RE AN INSTRUCTOR OR SOME SORT OF SIMILAR BACKGROUND HEY!
Best place to learn blind is somewhere with smoothish water like Woodies, Melville or Pelican Point.
ONLY GET VERY CHOPPY WATER OVER HERE, MAY BE THATS WHY IM STRUGGLING TOO...
I find it easier to olly to blind with plenty of speed, it's easier riding blind when you are going fast.
THATS WHAT JB TOLD ME TOO... I THINK IM SLOWING DOWN TOO MUCH BEFORE POPPING.... (CHICKS TEND TO DO THAT... CONSERVATIVE... HAVE TO STOP DOING IT ONCE FOR ALL!!!) WILL TRY TO DO IT MORE FRANKLY...
Oh and make sure you are downwind of others whilst learning.
THATS ONE THING IM USUALLY QUITE SENSIBLE WITH!! (AT LEAST, GOT THAT ONE RIGHT, WITH THE WEET BIX!)

Hope this helps,
IT DOES, THANKS HEAPS FOR YOUR TIME AND TIPS!!!!
