Hi,

I'm assuming Gerroa would be extremely gusty cross-off in a westerly, is there anywhere that would be good down that way in a westerly, preferably in the ocean rather than a lake?

have to agree with qwerty.

Gerroa needs a very strong (30+ knts) SW to work. Even then it will only work well along a narrow band a bit further south to were people usually in a NEer. Anything from WWS to NW doesn't really work.

Port Kembla is the go...

Although, I recently saw the Southern end of Werri Beach in a very strong SWer and it looked very sailable. It was a bit gusty but looked super clean.

i would look at what the swell is doing?if its small birubi but if it bigger than a few foot it getts fairly gnarly up there so go south to port kembla.

More specifically on Birubi: if the swell is straight S then it'll be too big there if it's more than tiny everywhere else. In any other direction swell the size is the same as any other beach, but bear in mind that with the wind slightly offshore it's generally gusty so it'll be a struggle to get out if it's above about head high.

There'll be at least a few sailing there tomorrow.

Illawarra Coastal Waters, Port Hacking to Ulladulla and 60nm seawards:

Monday: Wind:West to southwesterly 30 to 40 knots becoming southwesterly 30 to 45 knots during the afternoon. Sea:2 to 3 metres increasing to 3 to 4 metres around dawn then increasing to 5 metres around midday. Swell:Easterly about 1 metre tending southerly 1.5 metres during the evening.

Today looks good, but tomorrows the day for Port K.
Finally lines up with a day off work.

Well... Just got back home to Gerroa and the house sounds like it's going 100 km/hr. Actually had parts of trees flying across the road on the way from kiama. Definitly time to dig out the 4 meter tomorrow and head a bit further north.

woke up to no wind... how strange... now it's back on though.

currently blowing about 30knts with gusts in the 40s. middle of the bay looks like it's blowing 40knts + solid.

forecast is for 50+ tonight. better bring in the rubbish bins so I don't have to looking again for them tomorrow morning.

anyone going to sail Port Kembla today?

I sailed lake Illawara this morning in the shallow bit.. dead flat and consistently stacked on 4.7.. I went for a freestyle session rather than risk the unknown (was worried about gusty offshore starboard tack??).. I dropped by port K after uni but the wind was gone..

very interested if it was any good?? for comparison and whatnot?

Similar story here... Had work to do and was watching the wind in Gerroa all morning. Finally made it to port kembla by late afternoon. Wind had backed off... Went to have a quick look at lake illawara when the wind came back but sadly it already too late.

Sadly by the time I got home it was blowing a steady 30 knts. Should have stayed and sailed here.

That said, for now I'm hoping the roof will stay on for the rest of the night. Gusts must be easily in the 60 knt range.

Maybe tomorrow morning is the go.

damn it... first there isn't enough wind/ swell ... then there is too much (for my taste at least).

Wind just went southerly here in Gerroa and the swell is also picking up. Windang should be good later this afternoon. Depending on how I feel I might go for a quick sail here in Gerroa.

The wind starts to blow after months of despair and I break my finger bloody mountain biking, f-you karma, what did I do to you! I bet it's windy for the next 6 weeks now.

Windang blew for about 30 mins this arvo at 20knots then about 10 ish after that and good waves.Still enough wind to get a few waves.
Sup session before southerly was the best.
Great banks near rockwall. Long, long fast rides.
Water out of the lake a tad cold though on the outgoing tide.

Better now than in Oct/Nov.

Actually it was just sailable in the NE today and some good surf around.
Breaking 2 fingers would have guaranteed an epic day. I'll let it slide this time.
