Coastal Waters Forecast for Northern Queensland

Warnings
A wind warning is current for waters between Cooktown and St Lawrence.
A strong wind warning has been issued for waters between Cape Melville and
Cooktown on Saturday.

Synoptic Situation
A large high situated to the west of Tasmania will move slowly eastwards into
the Tasman Sea over the next few days, maintaining a strong ridge along the
Queensland east coast.

Peninsula Waters, Torres Strait to Cooktown:
A strong wind warning has been issued for waters south of Cape Melville on
Saturday.
Friday until midnight: North of Cape Grenville: Wind: S/SE 10/15 knots. Sea:
1.2 metres. Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms. South of Cape Grenville:
Wind: SE 15/20 knots, reaching 20/25 knots south of Lockhart River. Sea: 1.7 to
2.2 metres outside the reef, 1.2 to 1.7 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 1.5
metres outside the reef. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Rain
areas in the north.
Saturday: Wind: SE 10/20 knots, reaching 20/25 knots south of Lockhart River
and further increasing to 25/30 knots south of Cape Melville during the morning.
Sea: 1.7 to 2.2 metres outside the reef, reaching 2.5 metres south of Cape
Melville, 1.2 to 2 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 2 metres outside the reef.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Sunday: Wind: SE 10/20 knots, reaching 20/25 knots south of Lockhart River and
further reaching 25/30 knots south of Cape Melville.
Monday: Wind: SE 10/20 knots, reaching 20/25 knots south of Lockhart River.

North Tropical Waters, Cooktown to Cardwell:
A wind warning is current.
Friday until midnight: Wind: SE 25/33 knots. Sea: 3 metres outside the reef and
2 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 2 metres. Scattered squally showers.
Saturday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots, increasing to 30/35 knots offshore south of
Cairns during the day. Lighter winds inshore early morning south of Cairns. Sea:
3 metres outside the reef, rising to 3.5 metres south of Cairns during the day,
2 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 2 to 2.5 metres outside the reef. Scattered
squally showers.
Sunday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots, possibly reaching 30/35 knots offshore south of
Cairns.
Monday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots.

Tropical Waters, Cardwell to Bowen:
A wind warning is current.
Friday until midnight: Wind: SE 25/33 knots. Sea: 3 metres in open waters.
Swell: SE 1.5 to 2.5 metres in open waters. Scattered squally showers.
Saturday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots, increasing to 30/40 knots offshore during the
day. Lighter winds inshore early morning. Sea: 3 to 3.5 metres in open waters.
Swell: SE 2 to 2.5 metres in open waters. Scattered squally showers.
Sunday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots, possibly reaching 30/35 knots offshore.
Monday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots, possibly reaching 30/35 knots offshore.

Central Coast Waters, Bowen to St Lawrence:
A wind warning is current.
Friday until midnight: Wind: SE 25/35 knots. Sea: 3 to 3.5 metres in open
waters. Swell: SE 2 to 2.5 metres in open waters. Scattered squally showers.
Saturday: Wind: SE 25/35 knots, reaching 30/40 knots offshore. Sea: 3.5 metres
in open waters. Swell: SE 2 metres in open waters. Scattered squally showers.
Sunday: Wind: SE 25/30 knots, possibly reaching 30/35 knots offshore.
Monday: Wind: SE 25/30 knots, possibly reaching 30/35 knots offshore.
