Weather Situation

A weak ridge lies over Great Barrier Reef waters. The ridge will strengthen mid
to late week as a new high develops over southern Australia.

Forecast for Tuesday 5 May until midnight

Winds: S to SE around 10 knots, increasing to 10 to 15 knots north of Gannet Cay in
the afternoon.
Seas: 0.7 to 1.2 metres.
Swell: ESE 1 to 1.5 metres in the Capricorn Channel.
Weather: Mostly fine, possible shower.

Forecast for Wednesday 6 May

Winds: SE 10 to 15 knots, increasing to 15 to 20 knots north of Gannet Cay in the late
afternoon or evening.
Seas: 1.2 to 1.6 metres.
Swell: ESE 1 to 1.5 metres in the Capricorn Channel.
Weather: Mostly fine, possible shower.

Forecast for Thursday 7 May
Winds: S to SE 15 to 20 knots.
Seas: 1.7 metres.

Weather Situation - Queensland Gulf of Carpentaria
A trough will enter western Queensland this morning and move rapidly east over
the state. A high will develop over southwestern Australia on Wednesday,
extending a firm ridge into western Queensland and southern Gulf of Carpentaria
waters in the wake of the trough.

Weather Situation - North Queensland
A weak ridge extends over northern Queensland waters. A new high pressure
system will develop over southwestern Australia on Wednesday, strengthening the
ridge.

Weather Situation - South Queensland
A surface trough will enter western Queensland on Tuesday and move rapidly
east, contracting off the southern coast during Wednesday morning. Another
trough will most likely develop over far southern Queensland waters late on
Wednesday before shifting north on Thursday. A high over southwestern Australia
will extend a ridge into southern Queensland waters in the wake of the trough
on Thursday.

South East Gulf of Carpentaria: QLD-NT Border to Cape Keerweer

Forecast for Tuesday 5 May until midnight
Winds: Variable about 10 knots with inshore afternoon sea breezes 10 to 15
knots. Seas: Below 1 metre. Swell: Below 0.5 metres. Weather: Sunny.

Forecast for Wednesday 6 May
Winds: Variable about 10 knots becoming southeast to southwesterly 10 to 15
knots in the morning. Winds reaching up to 20 knots offshore south of Kowanyama
in the late morning and early afternoon and again late at night. Seas: Below 1
metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning. Swell: South to
southeasterly below 1 metre. Weather: Sunny.
