Weather Situation
A low lies over the Tasman Sea and will deepen further today while moving east
towards New Zealand. The low will extend a trough and a SE'ly wind flow north
through the Queensland waters. A new high will then move east over the Southern
Ocean towards Tasmania, extending a firm ridge over northern Queensland waters
in the wake of the trough.

Forecast for Saturday 23 May until midnight

Winds: SE 20 to 30 knots.
Seas: 2 to 3 metres.
Swell: SE Less than 1.5 metres through the Capricorn Channel, increasing to 1.5 to 2
metres in the evening.
Weather: Isolated showers.

Forecast for Sunday 24 May

Winds: SE 20 to 30 knots.
Seas: 2 to 3 metres.
Swell: SE 1.5 to 2 metres through the Capricorn Channel.
Weather: Isolated showers.

Weather Situation - Queensland Gulf of Carpentaria
A high pressure system near Tasmania extends a firm ridge into western
Queensland and southern Gulf of Carpentaria waters. The high will remain slow
moving over southeastern Australia during the forecast period though should
start to slowly weaken early next week.

A high pressure system near Tasmania extends a firm ridge along the east
Queensland coast. The high will remain slow moving over southeastern Australia
during the forecast period though should start to slowly weaken early next week.

Weather Situation - South Queensland
A low lies over the Tasman Sea and will deepen further today while moving east
towards New Zealand. The low will extend a trough and a vigorous southerly wind
flow north through southern Queensland waters this morning. A high will then
become slow moving over southeastern Australia during the weekend, extending a
firm ridge into southern Queensland waters.

South East Gulf of Carpentaria: QLD-NT Border to Cape Keerweer

Strong Wind Warning for Saturday for South East Gulf of Carpentaria
Winds: South to southeasterly 15 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots offshore
south of Kowanyama in the morning. Winds turning southerly 15 to 20 knots in
the evening. Seas: 1.5 to 2.5 metres, decreasing below 1.5 metres during the
afternoon. Swell: Below 0.5 metres. Weather: Sunny.

south of Weipa early in the morning. Winds tending southeast to southwesterly
10 to 15 knots in the evening. Seas: 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5

chance of showers offshore north of Weipa, near zero chance elsewhere.
