Coastal Waters Forecast for Victoria
Issued at 5:10 am EDT on Saturday 4 February 2012
for the period until midnight EDT Monday 6 February 2012.

Weather Situation
A high pressure ridge to the south of Tasmania will weaken on Saturday. A low
pressure trough will cross South Australia on Saturday to reach western Bass
Strait about dawn Sunday then pass Point Lonsdale about midday and reach Gabo
Island about 2100 Sunday. A cold front will follow this trough by about six
hours and an associated deepening low will slide southeastwards to the south of
Tasmania on Monday. Another cold front embedded in a westerly airflow will
cross Bass Strait late on Monday.


West Coast: SA-VIC Border to Cape Otway

Forecast for Saturday 4 February until midnight
Winds: Northeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending north to northwesterly this
evening. Afternoon inshore sea breezes at 10 to 15 knots. Seas: Up to 1.5
metres. Swell: Southwesterly 2 metres.

Forecast for Sunday 5 February
Winds: North to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending northwesterly around dawn
then tending westerly up to 30 knots during the morning. Seas: Below 1 metre
increasing to 3 metres around midday. Swell: Southwesterly 2 metres increasing
to 3 metres late in the evening.

Forecast for Monday 6 February
Winds: Westerly 20 to 30 knots. Seas: Up to 3 metres decreasing to 2 metres
during the afternoon. Swell: Southwesterly 3 to 4 metres.


Central Coast: Cape Otway to Wilsons Promontory

Forecast for Saturday 4 February until midnight
Winds: East to northeasterly 10 to 20 knots increasing to 15 to 25 knots
offshore this evening. Seas: 1 to 1.5 metres increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 metres
this evening. Swell: Southwesterly 0.5 to 1.5 metres.

Forecast for Sunday 5 February
Winds: North to northeasterly 15 to 25 knots tending north to northwesterly 20
to 30 knots around midday then shifting westerly during the afternoon. Seas: 1
to 2 metres increasing to 2 to 3 metres during the afternoon. Swell:
Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres increasing to 3 metres late in the evening. The
chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

Forecast for Monday 6 February
Winds: Westerly 25 to 30 knots decreasing to 15 to 25 knots during the morning.
Seas: 3 metres decreasing to 2 metres during the morning. Swell: Southwesterly
2 to 4 metres.


Central Gippsland Coast: Wilsons Promontory to Lakes Entrance

Forecast for Saturday 4 February until midnight
Winds: East to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots freshening to 15 to 20 knots this
evening. Afternoon inshore sea breezes to 20 knots. Seas: Below 1 metre
increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the afternoon. Swell: Easterly about 1 metre.

Forecast for Sunday 5 February
Winds: Northeasterly 10 to 20 knots shifting westerly 20 to 30 knots by early
evening. Seas: Up to 1.5 metres increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres around midday
then increasing to 3 metres later in the evening. Swell: Easterly about 1
metre. The chance of thunderstorms during the evening.

Forecast for Monday 6 February
Winds: Westerly 20 to 30 knots easing below 25 knots during the morning, then
gradually decreasing to 15 to 20 knots during the evening. Seas: Up to 3 metres
decreasing to 2 metres during the evening. Swell: Southwesterly 0.5 to 1.5
metres. Swell: Easterly about 1 metre becoming 1.5 metres from midday.


East Gippsland Coast: Lakes Entrance to 60nm east of Gabo Island

Forecast for Saturday 4 February until midnight
Winds: Southeast to southwesterly 5 to 15 knots tending northeast to easterly
during the evening. Afternoon inshore sea breezes to 15 knots. Seas: Below 1
metre. Swell: Easterly about 1.5 metres.

Forecast for Sunday 5 February
Winds: North to northeasterly 5 to 15 knots becoming northeasterly 10 to 20
knots around dawn then tending north to northeasterly up to 30 knots during the
morning. Winds shifting westerly about 30 knots later in the evening. Seas:
Below 1 metre increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning then increasing
to 3 metres around midday. Swell: Easterly 1 metre. The chance of thunderstorms
late in the evening.

Forecast for Monday 6 February
Winds: West to southwesterly 20 to 30 knots decreasing to 15 to 25 knots during
the afternoon. Seas: Up to 3 metres. Swell: Easterly 1 to 2 metres. Swell:
Southwesterly 1 metre.
