SYNOPTIC ANALYSIS Analysis
SYNOPTIC SITUATION:
A high pressure system lies in the Bight, directing an east to northeast flow
over the south of the state. Areas of high cloud will persist over the southern
half today, with hot to very hot temperatures expected over western parts as a
trough deepens near the west coast. In the north, isolated thunderstorms and
showers through the west Kimberley, east Pilbara and northwest Interior should
extend further into the Pilbara and eastern Gascoyne this afternoon.
PROGNOSIS
Prognosis
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS:
The west coast trough will deepen further on Friday, and should trigger isolated
afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the western Pilbara, western Gascoyne
and the northern half of the Central West.
The trough moves inland on Saturday ahead of an approaching cold front. Isolated
showers should develop about the southwest corner in the morning, possibly
extending as far as a line from Mandurah to Albany by the evening. The trough
may trigger very isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms over
central and eastern parts of the Division on Saturday afternoon. Afternoon
thunderstorm activity is also possible over parts of the Kimberley and the far
western Pilbara.
A high pressure ridge will rapidly develop to the south of the state on Sunday
in the wake of the front. An onshore flow is expected to produce isolated
showers along the south coast. The surface trough will lie over far eastern
parts of the Division and the adjacent Goldfields, and should again trigger very
isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Thunderstorm activity
should increase over the Kimberley on Sunday and extend into northeastern parts
of the Interior.
