Jeepers, you wouldnt want to hit this!!

A MASSIVE dock with Japanese lettering washed ashore in Oregon, but state officials said it was too early to confirm that it was debris from last year's tsunami in Japan, The Oregonian reported today.

Debris from the devastating March 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami has been slowly making its way across the Pacific Ocean, with some speculating it could wash up on West Coast beaches.

Chris Havel, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation, said, "I am refusing to speculate" about where the bridge came from. "There is no obvious evidence it crossed the ocean."

The dock, made of metal and concrete, landed on Oregon's Agate Beach either late Tuesday or early Wednesday. It measures 20 metres long and two metres tall, The Oregonian said.

A metal placard bearing Japanese writing was found attached to the dock. It has been forwarded to the Japanese consulate in Portland, the newspaper said.

Looks like the Japanese consulate will need a big skip bin out the front for a while.

When I first saw the heading of "20m dock washes up" my first thought was the jetty stolen from Lake Joondalup scout campsite has finally been found!

Turns out it is only a second hand glow in the dark jobbie from Japan that no one is game to touch!

Maybe it was built in Japan, shipped to Brisbane for installation, got broken up and washed away when Brizzy they had their floods, then washed out to sea and smartly exported to the US, hey they owe Brizzy some coin!

Bored at work!

I'm in Japan, and that was on the TV news here last night.

Basically there are literally 1,000,000+ pieces of debris that were swept off shore with the tsunami backwash. This jetty was among the larger pieces. It is thought that probably 90%+ sank off shore, whether that be 10m, 100m, or 1,000m off shore.

The ocean currents and winds seems to have be pushing items into the regions of Alaska, Canada, and NW USA.

Other interesting finds;
- A Ghost Ship, an unmanned ship that washed out, and stayed afloat. US Navy sank the bitch about 1-2k's off shore before it came to close.
- A freight container with a Harley Davidson managed to stay afloat and washed up onto shore in the USA. It was reasonably well damaged... Looked a fraction squashed, and written off... some dude has tarted it up a little bit, and turned it into "sculpture-esque" display.

years ago we used to camp around lake Joondalup- cub scouts had dorms and kitchens on the western side near where the hospital now sits, scout campsite was on the eastern side between pine plantation and the lake.

Used to make rafts, learn canoeing, kayaking, dinghy sailing, surfcats etc.

Our troop arrived one weekend- and our jetty had turned up missing!

Pretty good effort considering it was made from light poles and railway sleepers!

Joondalup quarries (now golf courses) were great for summertime bonfires and rallycross as there was no danger of fires.

If only someone had seen it earlier they could have put to the best use of all Hardleys - tie a rope to it and use it as a mooring!
