Melbourne has Tullermarine, and Avalon Airport in operations...

Would an additional Budget Airport be better at;
- Tullermarine; or
- Dandenong South, just south of the Main Industrial Area.... there's a train line there also...

What are people's thoughts?

Why not build a train line to Tullamarine? Admitably I've only flown to Melbourne once but it was a bit of a hassle getting to the city. It also seemed Tullamarine was pretty small and quiet compared to Sydney airport. Lots of flat land out there with room for expansion.

Is there a need for a third Melbourne airport? Sydney airport is pretty busy, ie planes often have to sit in holding patterns for a while before they can land or they sit out on the runway for hours before a slot can be found for them. Meanwhile there is just talk and ideas floated around for a second Sydney airport.

It would be a better idea to work out how to get a fast train going that is financially viable between Sydney and Melbourne. Apparently the Sydney to Melbourne air corridor is amongst the busiest in the world.

Actually the most popular idea is to put a third runway right were your avatar is sailing. It certainly makes sense as the airport is already so very close to the city, it'd just be another extension, and the could keep adding more until Botany bay is gone.

Tulla or Avalon with new train lines..Dandenong is to far from my house, too hilly and your just replicating infrastructure....f*^king governmnets are so disorganised its rediculous...I read in the big paper today that they are putting it at Tulla and are going to put in a new dual carriage way road along aiport drive and then upgrade it later to six lanes if they need to. What genius came up with that idea? Its like only buillding a one bedroom house and then tacking other bedrooms on as you go....f8^king expensive...just bang the big road in at the start...less inconvience, cost etc etc

I find it amazing that Melbourne has no train link to the airport, it's almost staggering that the most liveable city in the world has no train link.

Yeah, go the really simple, no thought required, no money required option!!

Sadly, this would probably 'fly'.

Somewhere south of Sydney would be better. Imagine somewhere half an hours drive from the city where you could catch a plane instead of going into the already congested city.

I thought the airport link bus, whatever they call it, was good. Would you need a train?

The Bus is a slow way to travel and the freeway can get blocked without much hassle so a fast form of travel is what is needed. Tulla is a very nice airport and having used it on a regular basis it does feel a long way behind Sydney and any other city airport.

The toll roads are private and I think there was a deal struck prior to building them that there would be no trains for a set term, ten years I think.

Thats sounds like very real and very stupid idea as when the ten years is up there will be no land to run the line as houses and twenty more Coles would have been built.

No new airports.

High speed train from Adelaide, Geelong and Sydney - ones that go real fast. fark the airports, airlines and there monopolies. I have travelled greater distances in china on train and got there door to door faster than flights in australia.

Tullamarine, possibly the worst International airline experience so far.....

This year alone have I traveled quite a bit and my flight out of there on Sunday night was a joke. Even in disorganized countries in Europe it was far easier than Melbourne.

50 minute line up for flight, 30 minute line up for security, 30 minute line up for customs. Lucky I arrived early...........

I used to work export from the UK and heathrow is truly shocking. I like Tulla but there is plenty of room for improvement.

Close to the truth. My old man used to work in the public transport industry here in Vic. He's told me that there is a long term(25yrs+) 'no competition clause' in place with the Sky Bus and other transport services accessing the airport. This would have been a factor when CityLink was built (possibly extended?? dunno), so while this is in place there will never be a train line to the airport here in Melb.

Sydney wants a new airport, Melbourne too, Adelaide as well.......[}:)]

Australia needs a Super Airport where some, 30 percent of travellers can go to and catch their international flights. A cost sharing international airport. Huge amounts of people only traverse these big city airports to interlink with overseas flights.

Give them all a departure and arrival point that take s traffic and conjestion away from city central confusion. less people less flights less disruption , more better

I have submitted to fedeeral government, both partys, a plan for this airport to be built near Broken Hill. Cheap land, no building interuption, plenty of construction material, rail. road in existence and air is there too

A plan for all of Australia............

Melbourne? Sounds like Perth. There is no easy public transport option from the airport into the city/CBD unless you want to get slugged for a taxi.

I think the big question is why would any domestic or international traveler's want to go to Melbourne?????

I guess a 3rd airport is needed for the amount of crew trying to urgently get the f@ck out of there.

Really? I thought it wasn't too bad, but I guess it all depends on the easy bit.

What are the busses like? I used a taxi to get from the airport to Safety Bay once, and then found out that the bus service was heaps cheaper. Slower of course, but heaps cheaper! That was before the rail line went in and the bus interchange.

My experience with the Skybus in Melbourne, was that if you catch it outside of peak hour, it is an excellent service.
