A Fishy Tale by me

I stand on the jetty staring at the crystal clear waters below
Everywhere, fish.
Tommies, Trevally, Mullet and Salmon.
The smell of pilchards on my fingers as I wait expectantly
Any minute now
An urgent tug on my line and I feel the weight.
It’s a big one, the fight is on.
Excitedly I struggle to wind in the fish
A flash of silver, nearly there.
I see it, a huge Trevally.
Suddenly
A massive eruption beneath me.
I can’t believe my eyes.
A giant sea monster,
Its back grey and furry.
He seizes my fish, hook line and sinker and gracefully disappears again.
Kind of like a rollercoaster
A massive, moving unstoppable force
My mouth is still open.
Underneath me I hear his breathing, great bubbles of air
Waiting, watching
He has an advantage you see….a clear view underwater.
I peek below,
Yes, there he is, leaning against the pylon
Resting against the fast flowing tide.
Brown whiskers twitching
I re-rig my rod and cast in again
Wind up my drag
This one is mine, I cry!
No Trevally has ever swum so fast
On the end of my line.
Hooray, he just missed it!
I land it on the jetty.
Fish for tea.
But as I head home I realize that the greatest catch of all
Was my memory of the great bull Sea Lion.

Thanks. I was really annoyed with myself for not going to the car and getting my camera, I was too keen to fish. So I had to satisfy myself with word pictures, hope it worked.
