Guys,

Cesar here from Melbourne.

Im organising a big fundraise for Cancer Research as a tribute to my mother who recently passed and in memory of all those who are battling cancer every day. 25 kites are going to cross Port Philip Bay on Australia day weekend 2013.

Help us to get the 1000 likes on Facebook so we can get more sponsors on board.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I get heartily sick of fund raising by being paid to have fun. It's grown to the point where there is an assumption that any irregular sporting event is for fund raising.
A few months ago, doing some cycling in Nth Qld, I asked to use a shower in a caravan park and the manager asked me what I was raising funds for. What? I was out enjoying the warmth and scenery. Why would anybody think it was for charity?
Have a mass sail if that's what you want to do, and reach into your own pocket to pay for research projects, but if you want donors, how about doing something useful that otherwise doesn't get done.
Maybe pick up rubbish along the roads, or go along and assist weeding and restoration of bushland. Give an old poor person or a cripple a hand with a little task or three.

Kill 2 birds with 1 stone, then go out for your own pleasure

That's a bit harsh isn't it. I myself am not one for donating that often. My mother has had ovarian cancer, my Aunty has had breast cancer to the point of removing the breast, another Aunty has Leukemia. I also have friends in the same category. You have to be a serious bastard to go saying sh=*t like that. If you would see how much it does cost to fund research into cancer and other illnesses you would be getting off your quite likely fat backside and joining in on the fundraiser instaed off bad mouthing someone who atleast is willing to try to do something good for someone else.
Have some respect please.

Go pick some rubbish off the side off the road if that's all you can do to help someone, or shut the ...........Up.

My 2 cents worth, Congrats cesarphsio, get the funds and rub them into Mr Milk face.

I agree to a point. I think these days there is so many people doing stuff for charity and thats great but sometimes it just gets a bit too much. If I donated to every tin shaker or door knocker I would be broke. And its not just sick kids its the enviroment or breast cancer and dont get me wrong, again all for the good of the comunity. But its getting to the point of over kill and thats a shame.
I think milk is onto it tbh. How about clean up the freeway get teams, get sponsers etc as you would and kill the two birds with one stone.

^ Especially when you hear a lot of this money doesn't even go to the charity but to the organisation to pay for admin fees and the likes. Less money into the research aspect/ helping people. I make an effort to throw what ever's left after paying for groceries to the tin shakers outside and the fundraising people that come up to me but you do wonder where this money really is going...

P.s. another 'like to your page has been added'.

Im not saying people cant have an opinion, just show some respect to others who have seen what the other side of cancer sufferers is. My family went through pain and agony to get through the terrible tragedy of cancer.

People do have a right to an opinion, but when someone goes through cancer in your family dont come bitching to us, when the doctors say they do not have enough money to research cures.

Both my aunties on my Mums side died this year from cancer and my Dad came through it and is going great and I have donated recently and I never bitched to anybody. Imo milk has a great idea, lets get some stuff that needs to be done rather than stuff that you want to do.

So... have you offered to be Cesar's support crew? Or to mow his lawn while he grieves his personal loss?

Mr Milk hasn't been bitching, just querying how others have their fun paid for them through the guise of 'charity'. So many ascents of Everest, many bicycle rides around Oz have all been kitted up by showing sponsors how charitable a cause may be, rather than revealing the true reason for the moment - and always sold as 'look how long I will suffer in the elements for'.

DJ8204; you may come bitching to me (and you have here, already) about the likes of State governments sponsoring motor-racing, instead of guiding those millions to medical research.

Thanks for being able to read. And adding the point that most medical research funding in this country comes from public funds.

But I might have fallen for a Bible troll at this hol(ida)y time of year. Jesus's opinion of tax planning, as quoted in the Gospel of Matthew

Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

Cesarphysio,I'm from the "dark side" (ie windsurfing) but I reckon kiting accross the bay is a great idea....you get to do something you are passionate about , and raise awareness and funds for cancer research. How can that be anything but good??
Go for it, fair breezes and good luck!!

Windsurfing isn't the dark side! It's light, friendly and breezy.
It's kite boarding that is the dark side. Just check out the kite forums.
