Hey Forum Fans,

I'm researching having my ear operation to open up my ear canal. The condition is called Surfers Ear or Exostosis.

Any local experience of the operation. I believe the old approach is to cut behind the ear and peel it back to operate on with a dental drill on the over growth bone. This causes potential tinnitus and noise damage. A new method seems to be with 1mm chisels and operates from within the ear canal.

Experience or advice? Good surgeons? Costs?

I have used Doc pro plugs and ear plugs generally, and sick of them.

Cheers

G'day...

This issue has been covered 3-4 times in this forum already - so perhaps do a seach, as a few of us have had it done and there's lots of comments already.

For me, I had my right ear done over 15 years ago - and it was completely closed over... no problems since.

Thanks for the Reply GPA

I have looked at previous posts and maybe missed some too. Will look again. Was hoping to find out about NSW examples of the Chisel surgery. And recovery time, costs etc.

Will search again now.

Cheers

I perforated one of my ear drums night surfing years ago but the doc couldn't see the damage because of surfers ear. After doing what he could for the perforation he said I should use nasal spray to help reduce the swelling and fight bacteria infection from the sea water and sand, made good sense and worked well. Maybe yours has gone too far but couldn't hurt to give it a go.
