o.k im a tool and i made a resolution not to post new stuff....
I believe this is a genuine "point of intrest" to recreational snorkelers(crabbers)
There was no wind but a few boat out at my local beech.
I will stress the importance of people who are snorkelling for craps etc. to tie a univeral dive flag againt the waist.
I believe that what i witnessed at my local beech and other beeches i go to that it is now "UNSAFE" to snorkel without a flag.
A dive flag dosent cost much but i believe that it will save your life from getting run over from a boat of (windsurfers/kite-surfers)

A PLEE
please use a dive flag if you are snorkeling in areas where there are high water users....
This includes areas where there are boats windsurfers and kite surfers
I feel strongly that some of these crabbers are certainly placing themsleves at risk by not making there whereabouts visible

Im not tryn to be a troll but feel strongly that someone namley(snorkelers) willl get killed sooner or later.
Thats all sorry to trouble everyone with the topic.
I do hope people who read this take note and fork out 14 dollars at e.g some crappy boat shop e.g BCF
I make the statement that .......
Someone is going to KILLED sooner or later.
Its difficult to get a visual on 3 inches of snorkel.

I've never seen those before buster. Good idea - they'd be pretty handy for snorkelling as you say. I used to do a little bit of snorkelling (could freedive to 30' without flippers and stay there for maybe 10, 20 seconds... couldn't do that now...). One day at the Spit I was diving not far below the surface and could hear a high pitched whistling sound but couldn't figure what, where or how close it was so decided to surface just in case. I came up right next to some kid learning to windsurf... scared the beejeesus out of both of us.

Out at boat harbour we have found most snorklers using these (or something similar) lately and it makes it so much easier to see them.

Nothing worse than being mid jump and spotting your landing around about a previously submerged snorklers head.

Being the snorkler is probably worse.

Good idea though how likely is it that snorklers will start using such floats?

We had one of our guys on our GPS team comment one day about snorklers popping up in inconvenient places one day.

The next day I had one of my sales reps say that he almost got run down by a windsurfer at our local (shows it's a small world). After hearing his tale I pointed out that he was obliged to have a dive flag on his boat and if he did then we were also obliged to keep away from them.

Here's more on the rules and reg's

Hey Elmo, it could have been me?
I've come within about a foot of chopping someone's head off while windsurfing...

Blasting along, went downwind of a boat, and noticed a submerged light brown shape in the water a couple of metres in front of me. Almost no time to react, pure instinct made me do an emergency hard jink downwind.

Looking back after I went past, the guy reacted a good two seconds afterwards... I couldn't have missed him by much, and it must have been very scary once he figured out what had happened.

There was a small dive flag on the boat (blue and white), but was only visible on the other side of the boat (the side after I went past). If there was a float in the water then I would have stayed well clear.

Great idea Buster!

Went fishing with my father a couple of years ago & spotted an open runabout (boat) pitching about in the swell with no-one on board, slowly cruised over.

When we got to the boat, there was no-one in it, so we looked all around, thinking that someone had fallen overboard. I was just about to call 000, when I heard some yelling coming from behind us. A diver had surfaced right behind our boat, and was abusing the crap out of us...I wanted to go back & have 'words' with the ignorant b@#$tard, but we decided otherwise...he's still probably cursing that he nearly got ran over by us!

No dive flag!
No-one in the boat!
And worst of all, he was diving alone, offshore.

It bugs me when the people that are doing the wrong thing, are often the first to cry victim!

Was sailing with a mate two seasons ago, 200m off shore and missed a dude swimming by about 2m. Had no idea he was there till he was past our Stern. He must of been a long distance swimmer training?? (or had a death wish). We were doing about 7 knots, would of smashed his head in with the bow then the centre board would of cut him in half....
