Sounds to me like a whole pile of tall poppy syndrome in this thread. I haven't seen the movie but it's getting higher on my to-do list the more people rag it out. And I reckon I'll enjoy it. So there.
I imagine spending 1/3 of the cost of a cinema ticket on a piece of 4" x 2" and belting yaself about the noggin would be equally satisfying and culturally enriching.
Lurhman should just make music filmclips and educational films for narcoleptics. It really would be the best outlet for his lack of restraint 'style'.
