Maybe part of the process of getting to the top is to build yourself up, and have yourself built up, to the point where you absolutely believe that you will win.

Four year build up, 4am starts 7 days a week 364 days a year. Life n fun times with peers, all on hold.
Then you hit top form, crack WR, land at London and come undone on the biggest stage.

Can do whatever they want in my eyes, throw a tanty, cry, laugh, what ever, tell media to go stuff themselves or whatever, it's all cool with me. Most are still kids at heart anyway. No time to grow up.
Have to handle media like they are the Aus Prime Minster or the US president.

thats why i gave up on the idea of being a proffesional sportsmen at a young age.
i was not dedicated enough..and parties and girls were my undoing. it is their choice to pursue their dreams,so no people suck it up. i did feel sorry for the girl after the race,but when she used twitter as a reason...well i did laugh

Yeh me too. I could have been anything if I put my mind to it but I didn't and I blame my Commodore 64 I used everyday after school in the 80's.
(BTW it's not a car)

...and then there's Liesel Jones - fifth & quoted saying.

...a true champion and role model for the younger generation.

As mentioned, it must be tough with the expectations forced on them at such a young age. I never had any sporting ability but have full respect for those that do, and give it their all!

Not swimming as fast?? You may want to check a few Chinese swim times.

The problem with Seebom is she expected to win and obviously her competitors did not read her tweets about how good she 'was'.

Here,s an idea .I for one could not care less about them so no pressure to perform from here and I,m sure I,m not alone .lets close tHe ais and withdraw all funding and spend it on things like fixing up kids soccer fields witH **** drainage that are eternal bogs and forever closed And having learn to swim for all as part of the school curriculum,or earlier so that fewer kids and adults drown each year.
and yes I,m sure new sponsors like Kleenex can be found to take up the slack for these sad sack ,bad sport sooks.on a brighter side leisel jones and Libby ticket are legends and a credit to their sport. To be fair tho they do have age and wisdom on their side.I know a lot of people who work damn hard at what they do and don,t carry on like babies when things don,t go to plan.

Why would you do this? There are so so many other ways to 'achieve' aside from swimming laps of a pool. Quite sad really.

crying when you came second? what does that say about the respect you have for others up there on the podium (and the ones who didn't even make it)

Why is it, during the Olympics, people become experts in sports they usually never follow or have no interest in. "Monday's Experts" I think is the term, plenty of advice after the event.
Spose there is more tall poppies around during the Olympics, more to have a go at.
Anyone who makes the Australian Olympic team has earned their spot through years of effort.
Wether they are, in your humble opinion, the best person to be there is of no consequence.
