Who watched it?

It was fun. Clearly they aped the British version. I hope they get a bit more Aussie in the future. Get old bomb Fords and Valiants running on 3 cylinders and drive to out to Bourke to have a drink with the locals.

I don't think they will get anyone windsurfing like Jeremy Clarkson did.

Dunno who the celeb driver was.

Few things impress me less than driving good cars through salt water like they did, I thought it was very ordinary.

I thought it was terrible ,

They way they pretty much exacted the British one was lame.

The presenters were annoying and dry and the bit where he talked up the stig like Jeremy Clarkson does was pathetic.

I wont be watching it again

Whats the bet they will do something on holdens vs fords and there will be no real result just a bunch of **** about how good they are when they actually arent...

1/5 stars

On a lighter note, i had a rather relaxing sail today and am now badly sunburnt

they obviously are throwing money at it in hoping that it will work (i would have paid good money for that moke). they should have gotten the right presenters... wil anderson, casie stoner, Stephen akmos, ross noble. other loud and funny presenters who you can laugh with cus seriously... who watches top gear to see the cars. (they could have done worse though; imagine hamish and andy infecting sbs as well

having said that i can't stand top gear unless they are doing a challenge, interviews, car reviews and how fast can i car i can't afford go are all dry and repetitive.

I don't think it was terrible. Of course a rip off is normally not as good as the original. The bloke who went in the shark cage is as good onscreen as James May. It was a bit annoying they talked about a surf in the morning and a ski in the arvo but they didn't do either. However perhaps that is the mindset of those little 4wds. You talk about doing it but never do. People who do it drive vans.

Its going to be a hard ask as Australians usually are not like Americans with their 'not invented here' feelings about British TV.

Yeah they are throwing a ton of money at it so it will be interesting to see if there is a second season.

The only guy i didn't like was the one trying to be clarkson. Just kinda "taking" the lead role. And i couldn't stand his voice.I dont think someone can act someone elses personality in the way he tried. I kinda liked to other two guys, because they were a bit different and didn't seem to be trying to steal someone elses character.
It wasn't that funny, but i guess as the hosts work together more, and get to know each other more, it could get better.

one word.... crap

......two words.... bloody crap

..........three words..... farking bloody rubbish crap... oh hang on thats' four

talk about a total photocopy....... only, you know when you try and do an enlargement on the photocopier and the machine says it won't do it cause you don't have the right sized paper,
but you do it any way,
only to realise the toner is running out, and when you get the copy it just looks too big and and grainy and rubbish....
....well

and those presenters..... the boss type one.... just yelled for the entire show, being loud is neither clever, funny nor witty, just annoying.
and that little one.... kinda reminded me of that weird looking thing that hangs with jabba the hut and repeats everything he says interspersed with that high pitched 'finger nails down the chalk board' laugh... or one of those weird looking things from the dark crystal.

and whats with the 'stig'.... why even have the stig..? is the stig not part of the pommy show...? are they that devoid of immagination that they could'nt come up with an original caricature, even if it was to be terribly cringe-worthy and jingoisticly australian....?

it is what it is, a total rip off of the original for the unthinking couch dwelling populace, right down to the msg fed, saccharine bovines milling unblinkingly around the machines none of us could really justifiably afford in three working lifetimes.

Slotting a 911 through some Tassie bends... awesome!

Putting some softroaders through their paces at Perisher... tops!

I prefer the Aussie version because I've been to those places and can relate to them much better than some county in England I've never heard of before.

Good on 'em

The idea is a good one. Execution, poor.

If the show were to be so similar, why not do a complete season out here with the original presenters. They, and their ideas, after all make the show. There is so much potential for exploitation of the aussie car industry and culture here, being so different to the uk; muscle cars, bathurst, desert rallys, road trains, even the old bangers seen out in the bush (and around adelaide!). Endless possibilities. As they are common place here it would probably take a foreigner to come up with a way of encorporating these things into a show and making them funny because you just dont get that stuff in Europe.

As a pom and a huge fan of the original, I didn't actually think it was too bad...

Sure, so it started out a little average with the softroader thing, but it made me go "WHAT THE F**K....???" several times - jumping the softroader off the sand dune, taking the stretch hummer round the track, shark cage diving with a Moke...

Yeah, some of it was lame - talking up the Stig, that 911 feature where it was doing about 50kph the whole time and rabbiting on about the PDK system... but then there's the advantage that the UK boys have: They've got Europe on the doorstep where they're not afraid to get illegally fast occasionally, and they've also got the Isle of Man which regularly shuts down it's roads to allow Top Gear to drive stupid cars stupid fast on winding mountain roads as part of a publicity stunt for the island... Try driving on public roads like that out here and they'll throw you in jail if you do 104kph in a 100 zone (possibly the only flaw I have with this great country)!

Come on guys, it was never going to be as good as the original, but it's not a bad effort. I'll definitely be watching next week - how many of you won't be? I reckon even those of you who didn't like it will tune in just to see what they do... :o)

And damn, I laughed at the Moke-shark-cage...

Hey,

Its called Top Gear Australia. So clearly they are going to base the show on the original. Otherwise it would not be Top Gear Australia. It would be "insert show name" Australia.

I earlier said it was a rip off, but I was wrong. Its not a rip off because they are usuing the name Top Gear. So they have every right to take whatever they like from the UK Top Gear.

Of course its not as good as the original. However go and watch some older Top Gears and they are not as good as the modern version. Clarkson and Co have over 15 years doing Top Gear and associated work. Its not fair to bag the first Australian one so much. The Aussie Top Gear has work to do and they are probably the first to admit it. Perhaps there will be changes in hosts etc.

It looks like they have interesting stories coming up. Here is hoping they have some decent challenges planned. Something like driving across the Nullabor or a beach on Fraser Island in a car that costs less than $500.

I was really disappointed to see that they copied the original Top Gear so much.
I thought the whole thing was really embarassing.

But it's a franchise now isn't it? Macdonalds is the same the world over, just the staff are different...

Thats what I am thinking. Perhaps there are strict guidelines the Australian Top Gear must follow, otherwise they cannot use the name Top Gear. You couldn't have the Parrammatta Crapdonalds selling their own style hamburgers made out of real meat.

I'd kill for another moke, especially one that ran.
Id get rid of the mullet fella and get somebody we know.
I can also confirm that a '69 valiant ute can cruise up Greenmount hill with No 1 AND 2 cylinders disconnected . I stopped at Bakers Hill to top up the oil and realized my "anti car thief" idea from the day before hadnt worked. I had driven almost 300kms with the leads off

I am well n truly over the original pommie version anyway as it has become very predictable and stale. So when you reconstitute stale product you get mouldy oldie results.

Do we think we are yanks or sumpin? What's with the idea of taking a working over seas show (already shown in our country) and trying to rebadge it whilst adding NOTHING new?? The curly haired 'comedian' of sorts is a try hard tosser too.

LAME. Push it of a cliff with a P76 tied to it.

As discussed above, its Top Gear Australia, not "Insert name here" Fast Cars Australia. So there is a fair chance the producers have to follow guidelines set down by BBC Top Gear. Perhaps they can't have the Drongo instead of the Stig.

Well they did it Fords Vs Holdens , with no result.

The show was margianlly better than last week the bit with the utes in kalgoorlie mine was pretty good but they killed it with the smart car as a hearse. they could have made it more serious with some kool bodykits and doing up the engine or something.

Better , but still not great.

I've missed the shows on the telly but, the magazine was a pure piece of toilet paper.

I got the impression it was written and edited by a couple of spotty teenagers that still haven't had their first root (except each other, but that doesn't count), they really came across as a bunch of tossers. There was more waffle than substance and occasionally they remembered to mention the car that was the subject of the article. Pfffffft.

The only thing that makes the normal top gear is the presenters thats the only reason that it's better than the Australian top gear. if there was no normal top gear top gear australia would be a perfectaly good show.

I am stunned with utter disbelief after last night.

I had previously commented about them using slush box's on the FPV and HSV but last night took the cake.

How sad and pathetic does it make us when the most powerful cumonthedoor ever made, with more power than a V8 supercar has to have water laid down to do a burnout.

The willies are that limp, they're hung like a cashew.

I believe that would be a washout ,not a burn out.
Cant believe it only managed 250.
How about a decent test track with some reasonable camera angles . the one theyve got LOOKS positively boring.
The little bloke is starting to give me the sh#ts and the mullet fella is just wrong.. now I find out that they came to Kalgoorlie and didnt find out about my salt lake. Well thats a good thing anyway. You can actually run up the pit faster than one of the trucks, so a ute could easily do it in reverse, what was the challenge?
