The missus is going to Bali with her girlfriend and looking for tips on accom. I think I paid more for dinner than accommodation when I've been there so she's not too interested in my tips so its over to the seabreeze brains trust.
The criteria: both are 26, looking for somewhere central, somewhere clean, and somewhere to put the feet up for a few nights.
She's done the the pacific thing, and now wants to judge the kuta vortex for herself. Thanks for the suggestions, anywhere closer to kuta, legian, seminyak?
Bali Diva!!! They let hookers come back judging from the comings (heheheh) and goings last time I was there, sugar is served in little drug baggies and the night duty manager is called Escobar- she will never wanna go again leaving it safe for you to do mates trips
But if she is like most chicks and is gonna shop shop shop-most of the hotels at the South Kuta Tuban end be good, ie dynasty etc but $$$$$$ and close to all the high end shopping or seminyak, near the gay bars so she is not seduced by all the young tattooed footy players hunting in packs!!!
Do chicks do.. " what's goes on tour stays on tour"
Alternatively send them to vanuatu / fiji which are just as close and nicer
I certainly agree with "nicer", but "... just as close." to where?
He's in QLD (lucky him if she's not ) so its about 6 hours to Bali and Vanuatu is just under 3 hours from Brisbane.
Legian and Seminyack are pretty close to Kuta. Possibly walking distance if she doesn't mind a longish walk. Sometimes easier than a taxi with the traffic but walking into Kuta will be very dangerous to her wallet if she's prone to buying the typical balinese junk thats on offer.
How much does she want to spend per night is probably worth knowing? What about a villa in seminyack? Seminyack beach resort?
Accommodation budget per night will help, when are they thinking of going and what sort of accommodation do they want? cheap and cheerful, 3.5, 4 or 5 star? hotel room or villa? 3.5 star hotels generally have everything you want.
Most of the mainstream places up there renovate and upgrade that frequently that it often seems to be a month by month guess on what's good.
I've just come back from a stay at Bali Mandira Beach Resort, they kept quiet they were upgrading the main pool, it still has a few months so go before they open it again, the service and atmosphere really suffered for it.
If she wants the Kuta experience then somewhere around Jalan Padma or Jalan Melasti near the beach is a good area, right on the border between Kuta and Legian, so close enough to get to the shopping with a short walk without staying right in the middle of it, and its right near Garlic Lane for market shopping and beers. Padma Hotel is nice but massive, Mandira as above, a mate stays at Niksoma (?) fairly regularly and likes it.
depending on the budget, id say go and stay in Nusa Dua. Best hotels there and a lot quieter than Kuta/Legian.
i stayed there recently at the Laguna resort and would go back there in a second. Prices are standard aussie bar prices for drinks and such but the resort is amazing. And not too far from Kuta etc if they want to go do the shopping stuff. I felt a lot more at home in Nusa dua and "safer" there.

Thanks for any tips.
Kuta Cowboys are your enemy my friend.
^^^^^^^^^ Read the original post. She said she is taking her girlfiend. It's gonna be one long sess of pillow fights and panty parties. I've seen plenty of movies with that exact scenario
The more 'western' the hotel the more it costs, whether there is a corresponding increase in service or amenities is lucky dip.
Maybe just hit up a travel agent for ideas, you can get it cheaper doing it yourself but sometimes saving a few bucks is not worth the effort and the choices will do your head in. The travel agent I use normally books the flights then gives me three different hotels at three different price points depending on whats good at the time, I go off and Google them and pick one. No fuss and no effort.
They'll need to get there and soak it up before they can work out what they want and where they want to stay next time.
I'm often in Bali, what I've found is the web sites don't always reflect the condition of the hotel/villa. What I do is have a little hunt around while I'm there and strike a deal face to face for my next trip. I've saved a heap on accommodation doing it this way.
Could always try Breezes in Seminyak mate. Nice facilities, clean, mixed age groups, central location close to beach, shops etc. Not to pricey. Just request a room that isn't on the 3rd floor. Those stairs are farked after a few days.
