Yeah mate, it all comes down to cost or if you're willing to pirate

I use to do all my editing on Final Cut Pro and a lot of editing on an AVID suite which is quite expensive, but really good.
Now days I'm working on Windows workstations so sticking with the Adobe Suite.
Adobe Premier is a pretty powerful piece of software for cutting your stuff together. Coupled with Adobe After Effects (primarily a vfx/compositing solution) you can churn out some pretty nifty work and the workflow is quite simple.
