I'm probably assuming most of us - who are still pressing refresh here - are in our late 50s to early 70's. We have been around the block a few times and some of us are more 'worldly' than others.

Maybe I'm being a bit nostalgic to simpler times. But in my lifetime I'm thinking maybe Keating and Howard as our best Prime Ministers.

For the worst, I just can't go past Morrison and Rudd. Maybe they did some good things, but as people and leaders I think they will go down in history as totally appalling, accidental leaders and weak.

Maybe we had more bad Prime Ministers than good ones.

I'm starting to rate Albo, if only for the fact that he has so far provided some stability. In some ways maybe he has Howard attributes, in that he is boring and has demonstrated stability and unity in their respective parties. I'm also trying to be bipartisan, by giving my best and worst from both sides.

Ok, I'll come clean: this is just my latest, feeble attempt to get this tired forum....

Yeah I will bite, I would place Bob Hawke ahead of Keating, but only just 🙂. I have to agree about the liar from the shire and Kevin Dudd.

I was going to vote for Whitlam, but then I checked the rules and saw that political comments and conspiracies are not permitted (unless you are Snoidberg). So I withdraw my vote.

I think John Howard was Good his decisive action in creating the Nation Fire Agreement was Brilliant
Wasn't really aware of politics in the seventies but remember my folks enjoying a Whitlam White wine
The worst President I have lived under, though not really relevant here was P.W. Botha

Problaby agree with you placing Whitlam as the worst. The fact he got sacked by the Gov Gen demonstrates how bad he must have been.

I agree with Dawn Fraser's assesment of Albo.

Bob Hawke probably best Labor PM, I think he would be turning overn in his grave at how extreme the current Labor Gov is and I think he knew what a woman is.

Keating is a CCP stooge, he would sell us all in the blink of an eye.

Morrison put the country in more debt than Rudd, locked us down, brought in the E safety crap and signed us up to net zero. At least didnt run open borders.

Rudd, Gillard, Rudd were just chaos.

Probably John Howard and The mad monk were the best of a bad bunch.

They all worked for the Uniparty.

The two party system has to go.

Agree Rudd, Gillard, Rudd, Abbott, Turnbull, Morrison years were chaotic.

Morrison was the worst, secretly administrating five portfolios was a very low act. He was a grub.

I've always admired PK. He seemed to grasp how an economy works. I agree with you about the CCP thing.

Agree PK was ahead of the ball with the economy establishing many mainstays. In 1985 he first proposed a 12.5% GST, which John Howard introduced in 2000. PK floated the dollar, deregulated the banks, improved the flow of money, made superannuation compulsory and created capital gains tax.

Morrison shirt fronted the CCP and that didn't work out very well.

Given that political discussion is apparently permitted....

Gough Whitlam’s greatest achievements include establishing universal healthcare through Medibank, making university education free, and ending military conscription.

He created the universal healthcare program that laid the foundation for modern Medicare.

Started the legal process for First Nations land rights, famously handing title deeds back to the Gurindji people.

Supported national wage cases to extend the adult minimum wage to women.

That's a very weak point of view. Unfortunatley Australia is full of weak points of view.

We should have stopped sending iron ore and coal and whatever other resources they want from us. The only thing the CCP respects is leverage.

Yeah would cause short term pain, maybe for a long time but the easy road is often not the best road

I would make it so everything that we export has to have value added. Iron ore would be steel, sheep would be lamb chops. Wheat would be flour. Energy would stay here to power it all etc etc.

Australia has everything we need to be a global powerhouse except the will.
Keating and Twiggy and Dan Andrews and their ilk would sell us out, correction have sold us out. Unfortunatley Morrison only dipped a toe in the water and got cold feet straight away.

CCP can go suck on a fart, bending the knee to them is the entirely wrong thing to do.

Top tip

Robust debate is the way, but don't get personal.

Rip the arguments apart as much as you like but don't attack the person.

I don't believe it is.

But I'd think there could be a respectful discussion about the best / worse recent Prime Ministers without arguing personnel politics.

So far all I am reading here are people's recollections of factual achievements of various governments and the weighting forum users place on those achievements.

Keep it up forumers, and peace and love to you all.

As a person who is anti immigration who exactly would you propose to work in the the smelters and flour mills
Yes we have resources but we are a small population that do not want to do these sorts of jobs

Australia's population is less than 2% of China's population. Picking a fight with them would be suicide.

Agree that it would further our interests if we were more self sufficient.

I wouldn't pick a actual fight but I dont think bending the knee helps. Saying nothing enables bullies to get away with bullying. Be that in a playground or the UN.

We will have robots in few years doing all that stuff for us. The cost of labour disadvantage we suffer from atm will disappear in due course.

Keep the resources here so we can add value and benefit.

Fyi, I am not anti immigration, it should just be done in a deliberate and controlled manner. But then again maybe it already is.

Albanese has frequently used language very similar, stating that Australia must stop "shipping our minerals overseas, only to buy them back as finished products."

Not sure how much action has happened.

You do realize cammd that the discussion has all been about the past not the future. Back when most of the big infrastructure was built robots where science fiction

FYI when the Hamersley Iron Project was being built in the Pilbara in the seventies the Federal Government was very keen to include a rotating iron ore processing plant and commissioned a feasibility study. Unfortunately it was deemed to be economically not viable.

As a Pauline Hanson supporter could you define a deliberate and controlled immigration policy.
