Working full time, raising kids, and looking ahead to to crappy weekend forecasts can be such a drag.

Today I was thinking about all the different jobs I've had. I think the best job I had was when I was working in the computer industry for Telstra in 2001 just after the dot com crash.

For almost three years I worked 4 hours per day and my job was to make sure that a million dollar plus teachers superanuation transaction would happen on an antiquated computer system at 4:00pm each day. The transaction always happened without fail on the dot, I think it was only a twice during Christmas/Easter that it didn't and I would have to reschedule it.

Them were the days.

A freind of mine did the worst job at the time - underground carpark attendant. 8 hours a day, no natural light, getting short thrift from disgruntled customers. He told me some of his co-workers were on suicide watch.

Anyone else got some best worst jobs they've ever done that they want to share?

Worst job. Nursing: Standing there and catching an old ladies bowel movement in my hands as an orderly turned her. (I had gloves)
Best job. Nursing: working in plastics and checking on women that had a breast enlargement or reduction. I had to feel their nipples every 2 hours to check for softness and warmth. Both signs of good blood circulation.

I thought I had a good job but a nipple feeler, WOW
Although I am a freelance nipple feeler

2 good part time jobs.

1 - Judge in the "Black and White" Pub of the year
I had to go to about 60 pubs over a 2 month period, and rate them on cleanliness, quality of service, quality of food and general ambience. Then when I left I left a card saying "you have been judged..." and put in my receipts to be reimbursed. Cash back + fee per pub
2 - Worked for the equivalent of ARIA
I had to go into nightclubs, do a quick and dirty head count, record samples of songs (without arousing suspicion) and the price of beer (Nightclubs paid a licence fee for music based on entry fee, head count and beer cost ??? -- I didnt make the rules)
Again - submit my receipts and get my cash back + a fee per nightclub

As a student these jobs kept me inebriated for long periods of time.

Best job was the resident chippy at Caves House in Yallinup. I lived on site in an old shack. My dog grew up in the garden and just cruised around entertaining guests. It was rent free + three meals a day from the resturant. I could start work after having a surf in the morning and worked weekends so i could surf bears mid week without the weekend warrioirs.

Every Sunday in summer there was a huge party in my back yard(sunday sesh) and i was single back then.

Oh those were the days

oh and i had a bar tab. The bar was 100m from my front door.

Now its all changed. My shack was bulldozed and flash units put up.

oOo good topic!

Worst
Mix between working on the checkouts at Big-W and at a well known kiting, surfing, windsurfing etc. store that will remain nameless. lol [}:)]

Best
Teaching - Having my own class, seeing them develop a clear understanding of concepts and a higher responsibility for their own actions.
Even just six months into my teaching career, nothing is more rewarding than seeing students succeed because of the encouragement and opportunity given to them (who haven't been given the chance by other teachers). =]

Smashing up and salvaging precious metals out of (information sensitive loaded) computers overnight in a government department. Five of us, all surfers and sailers rocking in at 7pm with snacks, music, ahem... etc to security acting like trained proffesionals then getting our work for the night done in a couple of hours and kicking back shooting the breeze for the next couple.

When I look back it was amazing we did it for 3 months!

One of my best jobs (one off) was involving Japanese film crew...got a call one morning from a diving friend, their dive boat was out of commission & they wanted me to take them out to a spot for some filming...no idea what they were saying, but they were obviously impressed with the dive. I got paid a crayfish, 4 abalone & a japanese trinket of appreciation from the director...plus the 6 sweep & couple of pike I caught (fishing) whilst they were diving!

Worst job:- contracted to replace vinyl floor tiles in a supermarket...worked near a full day before each shift, then worked 10pm-6am with a blow-torch, heating the glue (& sucking in toxic vinyl fumes) to remove the tiles before replacing them with newies.

Gradually regaining consciousness, I realized this was no dream; it had really happened. That also was disturbing, because I COULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED what had just happened. I must be dead. Since I didn’t feel bad- just a detached sense of euphoria- I decided being dead wasn’t so bad after all. As full awareness took hold, I realized I was not dead.

That sounds like an interesting day at the office.

Best was a 4 day film shoot for a japanese softdrink ad.
all meals were catered from a coach which was once known as "Pricilla, Queen of the desert" ad to sail landyacht all day , and if the fim crew got bogged , I had to get them out quick. All my gear was paid to be on standby and never got used.
Perfect wind and salt for all 4 days.
And I got paid extra to camp onsite as "security".
Worst job 5 days in a broken down Chaff Mill for $5.10 ph. having to bathe with a bottle of metholated spirits each night to aviod infections
