I'm looking for somewhere that's close to a train station for the daily commute to the city, but still within a reasonable driving time of of wello/victoria point/manly.

Oh, and rent shouldn't be hellishly expensive either (I'm a cheapskate).

At the moment I'm looking at somewhere around Lindam / Wynnum, but really I've got no idea.

All you Brisbane-ites, where would you start looking?

Wynnum is too expensive. Birkdale is cheap, i'm 5 minutes from the point. Thornside is cheaper. Both are close to shops and train. Thornlands (VP side of cleveland) isn't too bad price wise. All of these suburbs get you post 1980 houses for cheap. Wynnum & Manly is expensive I moved here from Wynnum rent was cheaper and house was newer/nicer.

There are occasional bargains (mostly older houses) closer to the city.

Theres a derilict 35 ft ferro cabin cruiser currently sunk off flinders point Manly QLD. You could take out some cement, patch it up and pump it out. then you could move in and be living in the middle of a popular local windsurfing spot?????? Otherwise it could be a good rest spot this summer for the locals. At high tide its still 1/3 out of the water. Low tide its in about 30 cm's of water.

hi nebs,

wellington point, ormiston, birkdale, thornside, cleveland etc.

manly west is prob the cheapest but if you move there you'll get sucked into the manly vortex and never go anywhere else. wello and VP are still a big drive from manly.

the thing with the train which i catch every day is that there is an express from cleveland that gets you into the city by 8.20 approx. it runs from cleveland through to manly and then express to park road. so if you live north of manly you are **** out of luck.....ie. wynumm and surrounds, hemmant etc.

the other thing is there is not much parking at cleveland train station so most drive to ormiston..(like me)

or... you could go further south to victoria point, then you got a 15-20 minute drive to cleveland.

the other option is to look closer to brissy like cannon hill, murrarie etc. that will leave you with a 30min drive to wello.

other option is ook at capalaba and catch the bus in.

my choice would be wellington point, victoria point, or redland bay....
