Hi all,

My name is Seb and I am new to SB so would like to introduce myself.

Basically I am looking for unpaid work experience aboard any size boat as crew (can help clean, cook etc.) I am located on an island off North Stradbroke Island. I have been told I can work aboard a fishing boat through a family friend on the condition that I get some experience on larger boats. Are you planning a trip up the coast and need an extra set of hands to help out? I have had plenty of experience on boats under 5m and hold various first aid cert., radio cert. bronze medallion etc.

Cheers,
Seb

^^^^meh

If only spelling was included at Rio 2016 Olympics , you would get a gold
But I guess an olympic spelling bee would be just as exciting as the sport they dropped

LOL... Yeah, good spelling won't help sort out all those kite tangles.

With reference to the original question, however, Seb, have you thought of doing some of the sailing/seamanship courses that are available? I looked into these a few years ago with a view to gaining big boat experience. I never went through with it, but l recall there was a fair variety of stuff available. I think there is an offshore crew certificate you can get.

Thanks for those that replied. I have looked at a few courses, something like a cox or something similar. However I have spent a few days offshore on game boats, I wanted more sailing experience to be precise.

Theres got to be someone out there that doesn't want to spend money and despite the fact I have little experience and am a large liability, simply needs an extra set of hands for a few days.

Hey Seb, hang around the courses mob, or try to find personal contacts.
Perhaps go to a local club on a saturday morning and enquire.

At my sailing club (25-35') and a couple more in town, taking newbies for rides and learning does not carry a good track record - no offense to you. Basically we never do it.

Good luck.

Cheers pierrec45,

I was going to head down to Sanctury Cove this weekend and talk to some of the guys down there. I know of a few people with boats so I'll have to do some more inquiring.
