Here's the dilemma Gents (and ladies if at all possible), got the old stink pipe out of the roof, but its rusting away big time and is sure to come down in a good storm. The main sewerage is through now, so is it still needed? Can I shorten it? Discount it?
Your advice please.

Surely a 5 minute search on your council website will give you everything you need to know.

Cut the rusty pipe off and replace with similar size PVC storm water or sewer pipe.

The bell end of the PVC will slip over the metal pipe, a couple of tech screws, silicone, paint, good as new.

Cap the end with air vent fitting.

pull it out and replace it. its definitely needed so don't delete it.
it can be reduced down to 50mm pipe if you like but probably not worth the trouble. needs to be at least 300mm above roof height, and if its pulled out to below roof level give it a good flashing.

Best to reduce to correct size upvc (40 or 50mm?) if you can get into the wall without causing too much damage - or cut off and reduce. You should be able to get a dektite flashing that will cover the large hole but step to the size breather pipe that you need to fit.

Or... ask a plumber.

Try using duct tape and a hammer. This combo seems to solve 95% of all problems.

Sounds like what I hear from my son and my brother in law [both are plumbers........apparently]

Shortly before our son headed to Canada, he went to use the tap on our back verandah, which was supposed to be hooked up 11 years ago.......

i do need to point out thats it is often cheaper to call the plumber in the 1st place as to remove the stuff ups from the diy dude and then put it in correctly costs more....
depending on how bad it was done results in the "sliding duffer scale" of pricing to be introduced.

most of the stuff is pretty basic anyway. she'll be right.
