Use a seperate browser for the news, then delete all the website data when you hit your limit.
I use chrome for general browsing on my iPhone, and safari for the news. Works well

Of course that was coming. Did anyone think that it would continue to be free when the paper costs $2 ?????

Dunno how anyone can do only online news, it is simply *not* the same as flicking thru a paper skim reading headline and 1st para until something catches ur interest.

It's been like this for a while.

How I've found to get around it is to go to the parent site then look up the article whats locked on Perth now isn't locked there

It reminds me of afl.com.au
You used to be able to stream a game the next morning now you have to pay,
If there wasn't so much advertising I would understand but how often do u read a story and all this stuff comes on the screen and stops you reading.

Yep, just vote with your virtual feet and f**k it off. It only delivers crappy news from its parent website.

Fairfax is going broke. They are trying to work out how to make money out of something that is seen by the market as being free. Most of the big Fairfax money spinners are also rans now. Domain less than realestate.com.au, Drive less than carsales.com.au, seek.com.au trumping Fairfax employment.

So Fairfax management are trying to wring money out of something that was once free. It won't work.

biggest mistake that ALL the news sites made was giving it away for free in the first place, now everyone thinks it should remain free.

How do you think they pay their journo's etc?

Yes grumples is 1/2 right and moby 2/3 right. The rest of the issue is the decoupling of classifieds and news. People paid to put the classies in the paper, plus paid a small token price for paper. The classifieds paid the journos. Now they don't.

I always shut down if I see "news +" login, but 1 day I really wanted to see a story so I just entered xxxx yyyy [email protected] and now it lets me in. Search cookies and delete relevant if you want another 20 from same computer.

[edit] I prefer more grown up news sites, if you get used to less trashy ones then go back to news.com for a look it's all celebrities, TV cross promotions, fad diets, basically today tonight / woman's weekly with 6 actual news stories spread across the whole page.

Yes the Fairfax classified ads, primarily in the SMH and the Age were the famous "Rivers of Gold" that flowed for around 100 years. This river is barely a trickle now. The Fairfax business was built upon this river which seperated into the jobs, cars and property tributaries. The end result through bad luck and bad management is Fairfax is struggling with the online versions of their classifies.

Of course its easy to be wise in retrospect. However its not that long ago, around 1996 that the chairman of Fairfax famously slammed down a Saturday edition of the SMH, weighing in at around 2kgs on the boardroom table and said the words to the effect to the board that no computer is ever going to replace this. How wrong he was.

1$ for first 28 days then $4 per month, or you can go one up and it's $6 a week and you get the sunday times delivered to your door,,

Part of the paying is that you get access to fox sports news which is why I thought fair fax was involved,

OK, sounds like same rates as here in Adelaide,

I actually work for News, so am aware of what you get for ya buck. Trying not to be biased, but its a better product than it was before, I too like the extra sports coverage, as I dont have Foxtel, its mandatory viewing on Mondays to catch up on EPL and A League.

News limited own 25% of Foxtel from memory, could be more now.....wish we got it free for work.....

Why would you even bother ranting about it? They probably don't even have 20 stories worth reading.

Wasn't ranting just saying bye bye! Never thought it was much good and is therefore why I was shocked you have to pay..

The system is flawed

With the Sydney morning herald, fairfax. I Just use private browsing, it doesn't store your history or cookies so the site doesn't know you have been there before.

You can read as many articles as you like.

How do you think journo's get paid on 'free' to air radio / TV?........ they put paid stuff to air..... simple.

So these 'news' based websites don't have ads? Newspapers have been on the charge everyone mindset for years, charge the advertisers, charge the people placing small adds / public notices, charge people that buy the newspaper etc etc.

If you want 'free' access to newspaper web sites join your local library and through their web sites you get access to ALL the news sites for free (just need to log in with your library number) My Mrs. has done that for awhile now.
