carbon fibre facilities in china are gearing up to produce carbon, carbon and more carbon in the coming years.

soon to be cheap as chips after all it's only woven carbon like any other woven fibre.

it's the resin that makes it special.

Well I thought silicon was the most common element on the planet. So I looked it up. Silly me, it's actually oxygen. But silicates form the most common molecules on the planet (not sure exactly which silicates, but one of you rock guys is sure to know). And just to make this relevant, we all know what silicates are used to make, don't we. That's right, glass, which can be drawn into glass fibres to make, yes you guessed it again, fibreglass, to make crappy old masts. So the moral of the story is that there will always be enough silicate minerals in the earth's crust to make crappy masts.

Global warming generated by good old human activity
Agree we don't help maters with our activity, but actually generating it I dont think so.

Hey Mineral,

That particular resource is so full of holes you could use it as a colander. The moon has more of an effect on our weather than the sun? Puhlease!

Regardless of whether or not global warming is happening, being environmentally friendly has finally surfaced in the minds of the general population, which can only be a good thing.

You may get a surprise if you watch the panel discussion afterwards, I'm sure they'll put this into context..

And if you think the sun is the cause, have a look at this link.

From news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3869753.stm :

But the most striking feature, he says, is that looking at the past 1,150 years the Sun has never been as active as it has been during the past 60 years.

Over the past few hundred years, there has been a steady increase in the numbers of sunspots, a trend that has accelerated in the past century, just at the time when the Earth has been getting warmer.

The data suggests that changing solar activity is influencing in some way the global climate causing the world to get warmer.

Over the past 20 years, however, the number of sunspots has remained roughly constant, yet the average temperature of the Earth has continued to increase.

This is put down to a human-produced greenhouse effect caused by the combustion of fossil fuels.

This latest analysis shows that the Sun has had a considerable indirect influence on the global climate in the past, causing the Earth to warm or chill, and that mankind is amplifying the Sun's latest attempt to warm the Earth.

Interesting isn't it, not quite opposite view points but different,
quote:

Direct satellite measurements of solar activity show it has been declining since the mid-1980s and cannot account for recent rises in global temperatures, according to new research.

The findings debunk an explanation for climate change that is often cited by people who are not convinced that greenhouse gas emissions from human activities are causing the Earth's climate to warm.

Here is a question for the mathamatical guru's out there.
If the moon is moving "away" from the Earth at an average of 13mm per year.
How long in years before its tidal affect on our oceans reduces to a non event.?
