www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/heath-shaw-suspended-for-betting-on-football-20110715-1hhe1.html

To put it in perspective, the bet would have been paying $101 for $1. So it was a chance to win $1,000 from $10.....

Probably a slight over reaction from the AFL. I would have thought the fines were about right. But 4 weeks holiday would have been more fitting, with an extra threat of some sort...

The odds for Heath shaw were pretty ordinary, place a bet for $10 and lose $20000 when you think about how much sponsorship the AFL gets from betting companies it looks to me a double standard but then again I guess it would be shocking for it to become like Indian cricket,I heard a good qoute from Alan Jeans he said footballers are like sausages you can fry them, roast them or BBQ them but they are still sausages, I think they are better bbq'd

In hindsight, I bet (pardon the pun) he realises it was a stupid thing to do but he thought he was onto a Shaw thing.
