I got my Mums vinyl and record player.
Led Zepplin, Creedence, The Doors, Santana and Hair just to name a few.
In one of them I found a sheet of paper that was divided into tiny squares with happy faces printed on them

I've converted my favourite vinyls to CD, there's no way I'm going back!!
12 scratchy tracks per side, have to flip the thing every half an hour.

Clean up the noise and scratches, convert then to mp3 and you can have a days worth of good listening on one CD.

Yep. I'm with Decrep.
If your vinyl player don't work, you can pick up a decent one for $100 that plays straight into 'puter & get a program to take out scratchy/itchy etc.

Lots of stuff you can't get on CD in the collection

There is a lot:

http://www.amazon.com/Vinyl-Store-Music/b?ie=UTF8&node=372989011

If I had the money I'd buy vinyl. Right now though I get all my MP3s from a Russian site, at about $2/album

www.gomusic.ru

Been using for about 2 years and have yet to have my credit card ripped off, not that there's any credit on it.

(I also recommend Firefox and the Download Them All plugin when using the site)

But its the scratchys and itchys that give character to the music.

I didn't embrace CD's for ages for that reason.

Stribo!! NUH
Mainly rock, blues & classic aussie stuff

edit: I use "Groove Mechanic" from coyotes.bc.ca as well as Soundforge 7 by Sony.
Great results.

Edit 2: Groove mechanic US$39 - but you get a 15 day trial to check it out...
or do all your conversion

I don't know about making a comeback. For those of us who truly love vinyl they never went out of fashion. You can still get a lot of new music on vinyl - there are still a few retailers dabbling in vinyl in Bris, syd and melb. But mainly you will have to buy online, and from overseas.

Try these guys www.elusivedisc.com

There used to be a site called simplyvinyl, which was great for remastered vinyl and new releases - but their site has been down for many months - unsure why. Heaps of secondhand and rares come up on ebay - mainly great brittain and the US.

hope this helps

My brother has a beach house at Lancelin and a few years ago he set up his turntable up there and took up all his vinyl. We started what is now a tradition whereby when we have a pissy night (happens occasionally at a beach house) we take it in turns to put on one side of an album, you end up getting a real mix of music and each pick doesn't last that long so if someones choice is real bad you don't have to put up with it for too long. I have since taken all my vinyl up there as well and we are encouraging all the regular visitors to do ther same. CD's although listened to occasionally are basically frowned upon at "Nights of the Round Table" at Lano. My grandparents bought this house originally in the early 70's and as our crew (Brothers, Cousin etc) were all surfers we used to go up a lot in the 70's and 80's and here we are 30 odd years later listening to the same music at the same house. From the early bluesy stuff Muddy Waters, Creedence, Cream, Stones, the cruisey stuff Eagles, Jimmy Buffet, Richard Clapton, to the more "modern" stuff Pink Floyd, Chisel, ELO its all good......in small doses.....when you have had a few.
Now if I could just find one of those sheets of paper that was divided into tiny squares with happy faces printed on them, that Greenroom was talking about it would be just like the old days..........
That reminds me there is a couple of Cheech 'N' Chong albums too.
Dave.............................Dave's not here.

Although I didnt eat it. That would have been silly. Why would you eat paper for?
Instead I made a head band out of it and wore it to a party one night. Danced all night. Since then everything seems funny. Like one big dizzy dream. I have a tendency to fly but other times I feel like an orange and I want to peel myself
