Termites are soft bodied, if you are building from scratch and don't like the idea of icky chemicals, do what one of the ultra-greenie-hippie families did in my old town.
They put a layer of lime under the entire slab, foundation, and verandahs of the [rather quaintly dodgy] mud brick / rammed earth / untreated bush timber and recycled stuff home that they built.
Everyone was horrified, and laughed at them [well - not so much me as I sold them umpteen pallet loads of builders lime and an awful lot of cement]

The whole district has a horrific termite problem.
Everyone else spends big on chem's that do stuff all apart from empty wallets, and often spending bigger on termite repairs.
Except for them...... near enough to 30 years of no chem's - and no trace of termites.
