In the previous 3 referendums on daylight savings, the yes vote was lost in the metropolitan area 51% NO - 49% Yes. AFTER the country vote was counted it was 53% NO - 47% Yes. Nothing will change no matter how many referendums we have, the answer will always be NO!!!

1975: 46.3 Yes 53.7 No
1984: 45.7 Yes 54.3 No
1992: 46.9 Yes 53.1 No

Well I think it's time to get rid of the referendum process. It's just too f**king stupid having the sun up at 4.30am and it going down at 7. Hence the reason why the rest of the world (bar qld) have it.

loved it diving & sailing after work then getting up for work in the dark in summer and a 4 & 7 year old up to all hours not so keen

Hang on. For those (most of us) who finish work at 4-5pm, and it is half hour drive to the water, having DLS makes the difference between getting a sail or not. No DLS means sailing once a week IF it blows on my days off, ........WITH DLS means sailing EVERY day after work.... (well every day that it blows so maybe 3-4 per week).

You will not be able to sell anything other than DLS on this forum I suspect.

And for those who don't want DLS, then sadly you are going to have to "share", as we have had to put up with the malarkey of nil DLS for far too long Three on three off for those who cant hack it

People who are against daylight saving need to get over it. Civilized states and countries have had DLS for years and will never revert back. DST will fade your curtains if your kids come home from school and turn on the TV and close the curtains to avoid the sunshine. Send them outside to play. In fact if you have a young family pack a picnic and go down to the beach/go for a walk etc etc. If you have older kids go windsurfing/bikeriding/play a round of golf etc etc. If they are tired out from physical activity they will sleep like babies.
The guys who work for me in the factory do a double DST by starting and finishing an hour earlier. Gives them a the whole afternoon off every day of summer.
Only problem I have experienced with DST was as a tourist in Scotland where the twilight extends to midnight and the afternoon to about 8pm. Their pub licencing laws don't match so that kids under 18 cannot stay in a pub after 8pm. So you have to coincide your evening meal at the pub with the fact that you are going to get kicked out (or the kids at least) at 8 which is about the time you would prefer to think about eating. I guess they could change the licencing laws rather than DST.
I really fail to understand why the rural communities or farmers in particular are against DST. My observation of farmers is that work is governed by the sun and not the clock and they seem to work pretty damn hard so wether its 5am or 4 am that they get up its still sunrise. Then when it busy they work around the clock.

Last year I didnt really like DLS because I finished work 230-300pm.
But this year since I will be finishing work later I need DLS for a sail

seeing as thought the earth's rotation will be 24hrs (and 0.004sec) for a very looong time, I guess having clocks is interfering with nature? ask your wife's work friend if they believe we should just ban clocks (I'm guessing you have already had a crack at him/her and they don't get it??)

I guess with their logic, 'nature' decided when 6:00am should be in relation to how high the sun is, not the gregorian monks who made up calendars and such (?)

They're prolly one of the dicks who believe that we can run the world on water if we all just love each other (and trees) enough

welll.... noooooo........ the first bit about curtains and fading stuff was pretty obvious but I am pretty sure he was serious that his wife knows somebody who actually believes it is interfering with nature

i certainly have been inferred as interfering with guinea pigs, but i always made sure i had a roll of 2" masking tape.

Bravo. I'm not working 8 to 5 this summer, but I was last summer and it really made the difference. Hopefully one day I can do it again, at which time I want DLS so I can kite 7 days a week, not 2.
