I saw a dolphin today about 6pm at scarbs, about 1km out. First I just saw the back and the fin and did a turn to have another look. Coming back in I saw him what looked like surfing a wave, half the body out of the water. Great moment. Also answers who was at Scarboro first - which is discussed somewhere else.

Enjoy.

Today I was the first one out (or second, saw a green kite downwind) at Scarbs around 2:30 and was just going out first time thru the break when I saw a big black blob about 1m diameter in the water. Thought it was the usual patch of seaweed that tricks your imagination when it was sticking it's head out. Seriously. I'm not making this up. I thought 'seal' but the body was rather round and it looked like a turtle to me. Less than 100m offshore.

Are there turtles that big around here ? (I saw one in August 2000 when windsurfing in Rhodes, Greece.) Must have been a seal.

Just two weeks ago a dolphin. Nothing else in three years. What else do people see out there

Cheers,
Steve.

PS: 'how big was the dolphin'. dunno ... 6 feet?

Three years ago saw a 2.5 m Hammerhead around 10 m upwind of me. Fortunately, it was swimming away. Was about 300m off the livesaving club at scabs. Time was about 4.00 pm.

Haven't seen anything else since...

I have seen huge barnicle encrusted turtles about 300m out from between north Scarborough and Trigg but not in the last 2 years.

Here's another one: Jellyfish. I have a nice red striped arm now from yesterdays session at Scarbs.

Oh, and I had to watch 'Finding Nemo' the other day and concluded what I saw two weeks ago was a turtle.

i seen, seals, dolphins, flying fish, normal fish. And i think i saw a shark once or twice, but i didnt go investigating. I nearly ran over a dolphin once, it surfaced right infront of me out the back of lancelin, scared the **** out of me.
