This again.

So "Sampson and Delilah" is screening on the ABC next month. I really liked this movie and wanted my wife to see it too (I work away from home).

Now, it being an Australian film, and I guess a small independent one, I really didn't feel good about downloading it. So I haven't. But, I have a digital recorder (MyStar) and come November it is perfectly legal for me to have a copy, and a good copy at that.

What if forget to record it (one week in advance max on my recorder), can I download it?
Can I download it now, what difference does it really make?

I suppose my question is once it has screened on TV, with all these digital recorders, what are the ethical and legal ramifications? To boot it will be on ABC with no ads. And we pay for ABC, my taxes have covered the screening rights and probably even a chunk of the film's production.

Excellent movie by the way.

Hmmmmm..... conundrum!!

You could always convince yourself you're making a "back up" copy - so in the unfortunate event that all the other original copies are destroyed, you'll be able to provide the producers with the data they need to re-print...

That makes you a hero...doesn't it?

Its minimal that you would get caught unless the recorded copy containing tracking cookies e.t.c.'
you should call the file somthing else. if you want to share it and only share use overseas sites for download upload where the copywrite is differen.
the major player in australia is warner brothers . this comes up on my peerguardian firewall when downloading latest releace movies. which means they have my ip and are tracking the movie distribution.

if you in jepoardy your isp (internet service prodivider) will genrally provide you with a warning email.
The police and goverment dont care they are to busy tracking pedoflies and criminals ATM "skimmers" and hackers

in sayn tht panda i think there is going to be a major shake up in the downloading scene.

think your over reacting fileshare will change aslong as formats can be transfered

since i got my internet connection have never bought a movie or a new cd.?
it certainly isnt my fault that these resources are so easily available.?

To answer the question yes you are liable for recording and you would face procecution f you decide to share it with out authorization ..
take the transformers movie. 1/4 a million downloads in australia before the movie even got releaced over here.

There is no ethics on the internet and global internet fraud are on the increase.
the tecnoligy is out o controll people dont rob banks anymore they just use the internet and tecnoligy.

^ Same almost. There is a point were I gladly pay for an album, around the $2 mark. And overall I spend/buy a lot more than I used to, because now it is a feast of music.

Again there are legal questions here. If I buy a cheap pair of shoes in Russia (as if btw), why can't I buy cheap music from there too? It seems there is a problem only with the delivery method, which in itself is not illegal.

Ah... screw all this. It's time for communism. Co-operation not competition. It's funny the seeds for it just will not go away, open source software for example. Even micro-loans feel a bit "commie".

In my experience when I was downloading movies it was very hard to get anything except the latest Hollywood release and usually the quality of the download was pretty ordinary. I've given up on downloading movies since getting a blu ray player as I prefer to hire a movie with high quality sound and vision than some rubbish recorded on a handycam.

So if you can get this movie at a reasonable quality from bit torrent or some peer to peer system then you are doing pretty well to start with.

Why don't you try to hire it from the video shop if you forget to record it?

you can download bule ray most people re fed up with it because these companys like sony advertise and sell products new this new that "my cheque book keeps bouncing back"

big business sell products that you dont need and then make you feel inferior because you havent got the latest stuff.

If you want a mountain of music for minimal cost and totally legal, get yourself one of the Nokia phones that has the Comes With Music one year subscription to Nokia Music. My wife got a Nokia 5800 Music Express with a 3 phone subscription.

Since she's had it I've downloaded around 80GBs of music. Its 192kbs encoding, has all the track data and album artwork associated with the files. The files are DRM protected in some windows media format. I bought a little application called Tunebit that can legally playback the DRM protected file and convert it to another non rights protected format.

Ok...slightly digressing here...but..

I hired the new Wolverine DVD from the vid store last night - put it in the computer (long story) and itunes just happened to be open....

A screen within itunes came up asking for a code written in the cover slip.... by the looks of it, with the code, I can legally put a copy into Itunes to watch later through Apple TV/iphone etc...

Here's the problem - when hiring a DVD you won't get the orginal cover/code....

Is there a trade in codes out there somewhere?? I'm paying for a copy... so not really ripping anyone off!!?
