Last week I was down at Shellys beach hanggliding and after landing a fisherman pulled in a Hammerhead and gave him a hand to remove the hook. She was a little to heavy to clear the shore break by just throwing so fully clothed walked her out but forgot about my phone. Ahh, the inconvenience of lost phone numbers and data.
Well it's a good excuse to update and wondered what would be the best phone for weather forecasts. There's to many to choose from, which phone, which provider, which plan ? I just got an Apple laptop so maybe an iphone is the best.
I'd like to know what combo most of you guys have gone with or would change to, any thoughts ?

Oh yeah, and the shark swam away happily

almost any phone you can buy these days will be adequate for checking the weather. and most phone plans around will have a little bit of included data that would be more then adequate if you just want to check the weather.

iphone would be nice, but do you really want to spend anywhere from $70-100/month on a phone?

Just done a quick search and looked at 3, they have a $49 cap with an 8gb iphone or $5 to $10 more for a 16 to 32 gig iphone, doesn't sound to bad.

if going with 3 just be aware that you cant use the internet EVERYWHERE! when ever 3 is 'roaming' which is... everwhere, when ever you download/use the internet it costs more money that isnt included in the plan!

The optus plan is the best in my opinion!

Depends how many emails and sms you write. Typing on the touch screen would piss me off I reckon. Check out the Nokia N97 on Virgin Mobile. Full keyboard like a mini laptop, 3.5" touchscreen, 32GB internal memory plus mini SD slot. My favourite feature is the FM transmitter. You can play your music straight on the radio of your car without any wires or extra devices.

I love my iPhone, i'm on the optus plan and have not even come close to using the included 1GB internet usage, i have used internet radio while walking my dog and the trapster apps while driving for long periods of time.
I collect the free weather and navigation apps, there is heaps of both.
The car charger i use is hands free and an FM transmitter in one.
Typing on the screen is no problem.
Battery life is the only hassle, but I plug it into the hands free when in the car, and as soon as you plug it into the computer for itunes it starts charging.
The biggest problem i can see with any of the new phones is that they carry so much info, if you don't back it up reguarly you will lose more than a few contacts.

Iphone on the Three plan.

Three (vodaphone) have networks in my area and then will roam to Telstra when I'm not covered - so it will work just about everywhere. If you live/use your phone in an area covered by vodaphone then get one of those. I also use three because the rest of my family are on three and it's free calls between us - jeez phone plans in Australia have to be the most confusing things that ever walked this earth.

If you love gadgets, then either get an Iphone or the latest and greatest android based phone (the google phone) - go for the android if you are a bit more tech savy.

Just be careful not to drop it in the water. If you are concerned about that then just get the cheapest handset on the market, usually better battery life and does much less - will make calls - but are more durable.

Went the iPhone on optus $59 plan, sending this reply on it now, this seems so weird to be doing this on such a small screen but is quite easy to type on. It's my first message on it and am happy with the choice, thanks for the advice guys.

Ok, Ok, Ok. may be I need some practice, the screen was so small and my fingers so big.

Back on the laptop now, I didn't think it posted so tried a couple more, to be sure, to be sure.........................to be sure.
I tried to connect the phone to my laptop but it wouldn't fit in the CD drive though eventually worked it out. Could do with a lesson or two.

It will take you a while to get the most out of it but your gunna love it. One tip when reading forums such as seabreeze turn it so you have a wide screen and then double tap the screen and it will adjust to the full screen for easy reading.
The touchpad keyboard is different and at first seems a little weird having to change screens for the normal txt shortcuts such as 2 (to) 4 (for) and l8r etc but you will find that it is that easy to use that you tend to type the full word anyway.
