Saw a list being emailed around a while ago. Heard my first for real tonight:

Wallabies vs Springboks in Johannesberg tonight.

Dan Crowley (in response to something said by the other commentator) at the start: "yeah it is a hard place to win at. The altitude IS a problem but it is more in the head than in the mind..."

WTF

Haha, I was watching that match too, I'm South African so I'm a Bokke supporter .

When I heard that I laughed so hard! Good to see someone else picked up on it.

One thing that does get me though is the level of bias that the commentators have on Channel 7, sure if you're a Wallaby supporter its great, but it detracts from the game, which is why we watch it, win or lose. I'm not sure if it was Crowley, but one of them kept opposing the refs decisions; one particular knock-on where he said something like: "oh that was a knock on, but the ref played on anyway" when it very very obviously was not, surely they'd have given us 100 replays to show the ref's mistake if it were actually a knock-on! To be fair they did give South Africa a bit of a congratulations in the end.

I think I'm gonna wear my Springbok jersey to uni on Monday . What an awesome way to lose a tri-nations hehe

Did he happen to be wandering past the commentators box when he made that comment or is he actually employed as a commentator?

Don't forget as a prop he copped a few beltings around the ears onfield....

Dan Crowley is actually quite a funny M/C and commentator ( although like with most tv stations you don't get free rein with what you can say ). I went to a rugby lunch a few years ago in Perth where he was M/C and he - especially for a prop - had the show going along really well with lots of humour and behind the scenes stories.

If you're interested in union and want a pretty good read see if you can find a book called " Undercover Prop " by Crowley which is a good yarn about the days when he was an undercover cop working the drug scene on the Gold Coast and still playing representative rugby out of Brissie. Goes to show how stupid the hoods were if they never realised that he was a cop -- but I think he had tendency to give anyone who got a little suspicious a good flogging just to put them off. Not heavy reading but a good yarn for an ex-sportsman.

And Jimmy, the Kiwi and Bokke commentators are just as biased on there own telecasts.

Try watching a game of Aussie rules with a biased commentary team from the relevant TV networks.
Case in point, was last Friday nights match Collingwood V Dockers. 1st Q Dockers 5 goals up, and the boofheads still pumping up the Pies tyres on how well they are going. Was late in 3rd or early in 4th when eventually the tone from the box started to change a tad. Even old silver tongue Dennis couldn't bring himself to admit that the Pies had blown it.
And no not a dockers supporter.
Had same game on the net playing in the background from 6PR, (get sick of listening to the dribble from the so called gun ex players is why) one would think there was two completely different games being played on the same oval.

"he has got the ball, now he has to do something with it"

"name to name to name to name to name"

*commentator having orgasm in background* "it goes to tukiri"

i went to bed after half time, did australia manage to get a try in the end?

Footy cliches are the best!!! I dunno about other codes, but they just never change!

"It's the one percenters that count"

"Let's take it one week at a time"

"What goes on the trip, stays on the trip"

(The last one's the end-of-season favorite!)

No bias at all would be better still I reckon, even if they are biased towards my preferred side.

Was a good game though.

Is this the list you were talking about Mark ???
I think I like number 9....

Here are the top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators so far during the Summer Olympics that they would like to take back:

1. Weightlifting commentator: 'This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing.'

2. Dressage commentator: 'This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother.'
d
3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: 'I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father.'

4. Boxing Analyst: 'Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious.'

5. Softball announcer: 'If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again.'

6. Basketball analyst: 'He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces.'

7. At the rowing medal ceremony: 'Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew.'

8. Soccer commentator: 'Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've got eleven Dicks on the field.'

9. Tennis commentator: 'One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them... Oh my God, what have I just said?'

yeha that is the one, but I think they make some of them up

one of the better one's I've seen is a sports commentator trying to say how footy players (he used to be one) are actually quite intelligent

" well so-and-so is very smart, he speaks english and spanish and is bi-lingual too"
