So it seems the qld govt has passed laws putting these into the same catagory as norm cigarettes. At first I though "great" but then I started reading some of the comments on it and now I'm unsure? What do you think?

Really? I didn't know that. I was thinking that they were forecastinh that it would start to hit them in the hip pocket so they're taking action?
But on the other hand, with the continual increase in taxes on cigarettes, the time will come when only a limited amount of the population will be able to afford to smoke so what's the difference in lost revenue?

Don't kid yourself (like addicts do) Any nico intake does NOT help give up cigs.

Patches are pretty ineffective and I would think the oral/habitual effect of e cigs only adds to nico/cig addiction.

Plus, despite having 'zero' fumes (according to an addict) I had a MASSIVE nico headache after sharing reasonably large space with someone chugging away on one.

They may have some nicotine, but they don't have the other 1000 posions

When exclusive on E cigs for a few weeks, my body, was going through usually withdrawning from the normal cigs, plus skipping most days, I Could tell after a few weeks on the E cigs, that it was doing much better than normal cigs

no smell, so can you them inside, that includes at work

the only negative appeared to be getting mouth ulcers, like a kid eating lollies

They are awesome. The reason given for wanting to ban them is "there's no evidence they assist smokers to quit". What a crock of ****. I would say the real reason is because they are widely available on the web and so is the nicatine juice= no tax revenue.
It is somewhat hypocritical to ban them as there "may be adverse health risk" yet cigarettes which are proven killers to the smoker and everyone around them are legal hmmmmm

Actually much more complex than the above suggests. Here are just a few of the many concerns:

Big tobacco owns a massive proportion of the e-cigarette businesses. If they honestly believed it would stop people from smoking, would they do this?

The e-cigarettes are an entirely new way to get a new generation addicted - they have novelty flavoured stuff specifically to get the kids on board

The stigma and smell of cigarettes aren't there, and can "be smoked indoors". Thus people who would never consider smoking a cigarette are more likely to use these, and to use them in environments where they would never dream of smoking. It's like going back to the workplaces of the 1960s where people would smoke at their desks.

It is hard to imagine a product that big tobacco would more like to see readily available!

THe other issue is safety. Real risk to children of poisoning. Children really do not poison themselves by eating a cigarette. There have been a number of cases of children drinking the sweetened, flavoured nicotine cannisters and ending up seriously unwell/ICU. No deaths yet, but only a matter of time

You have obviously never been near someone with one of the flavored ones. They stink. One person as smoking a red bull flavor one. and they were lowing the smoke around.

Its probably to stop people smoking them inside (which a lot of people do, despite been banned here in Vic anyway)

PG very non-toxic for humans & monkeys- eg injected as a carrier for medicines. Has been vaped heavily for 10 years now, no major effects emerging... yet!

e-cigs work as a quit tool where all else failed in about 50% of cases in my personal experience. (~15 people)
Worked for me & wife.

It was hard to quit e-cigs but by then stinking filthy "analogues" were so far from our lives that going back wasn't an option.
Had to take up eating instead

Yes, definitely issues around safe storage of nicotine. Issues around safe storage of pine-o-clean too.
Child proof caps would take care of a lot.


Oh and they were never about big tobacco, they've just rushed in at the last minute - can't beat them so they've joined them... with their billions of dollars.

I haven't smoked for over 5 years and had a puff on one with the nicotine juice last weekend. I was surprised at he sensation of it and it blew my head off. I wont be buying one.

I have heard one of the reasons why they banned them here in WA was because of concerns it would lead to smoking normal durries, and now, I would believe that. They should be a quit smoking (or a better option replacement) tool. Not an alternative to start smoking.

After having one, I am inclined to think that if you sucked back a lung full of e-cig and didn't like it, you probably wouldn't like real smoke either. However if you did like it, you were inclined to smoke anyway.......

Just my opinion.

There are far less particles with e-cigarettes. These are the things that give you cancer, not nicotine.
There is still nicotine.

I fail to see how e-cigarettes are worse than real cigarettes. Why are they banned?

Someone may like to correct me on what, exactly, you inhale with an e-cigarette and if that is anywhere near as toxic as what is in a normal cigarette.

I've been using vaporisers and the difference to the normal methods is enormous. You can feel it (or more accurately can't feel it) the next day; no phlem etc.
They also allow you to sit around the table with everyone else drinking wine. So civilised. Genuinely tasty too (mine's birch).

I'm sure there's been plenty of research, and results. But wherever big tobacco is involved, and the results are beneficiary to their interests, results will take generations to come out.
Cigarettes WILL kill you, ecigs MAY kill you. I know which way IDE go.

I have seen a few people try and give up, and even though being relatively stubborn people, it is hard. I think they wouldn't have realised the damage they caused when they took it up.

I remember my grandfather telling me that he was advised to take up smoking to 'cure' a toothache he had. MY grandmother was advised to take it up after a particularly difficult labor.

I think going back a while, people didn't realise exactly why it was bad for you and thought it actually helped some conditions. Go figure.

I gave up smoking in June this year, cold turkey is the best way, nicotine replacement products just keep feeding the addiction, in reality the withdrawl symptoms can be described at worst as mild discomfort. Getting your head in the right frame of mind is the challenge.

I had to quit due to the cost, I couldn't afford to keep smoking without sacrificing something like school fee's or food. To get my head in the right frame of mind I decided to order a brand new Phantom377 Raceboard, there was no way I could pay for that when it came in and keep smoking. I quit the day I ordered it, the board should arrive in the next week or two.

Stick with it. The urge to smoke is trivial but insistent. It takes ages to go away all together.

The trick is to maintain your negative attitude to smoking all the time.

After a few months you get used to keeping it up. After a few years the urge to smoke disappears.

Give up, you'll feel better for it. After a couple of months your taste buds come good and food starts tasting better. Your can taste subtle more flavours and you don't need to bolster the "flavour" with salt.
When I gave up 'cold turkey' I was smoking 60 a day. It was all a mind set. Trying, does not work. Giving up does.
Substitution is a great way to change the 'physical' habit.
Instead of grabbing a cigarette, get a cup and pour some water.
Instead of drawing on the cigarette, sip the water.
Unlike smoking, drinking water is good for you!

I often laugh at the people that I have worked with that find it surprising that I can tell when they have come back from a smoke. It must really reduce your sense of smell. I can't image how it would be if it reduces taste as well.
