... coop gate
After electrifying my catamaran time come for next item.

Apparently my birds flock wake up a few hours before me so there is dilema: torture myself to get up 6 a.m to release chicks, ducks and gees to get fresh air
or
keep them til 8 screaming in the cage ?

Well there is third way and here automatic gate opener come very handy.
Timer will open the gate automatically at the early dawn and even could close at the sunset.
Whole lot cost me possibly $20 to build.

What next ? I am working on converting my post hole digger, that blow the 71 c.c. engine right now but I could scarify my old electric chain saw to donate 1600 W motor....t.b.c

you do that to phd and it.......will kill you....ever seen the damage that phd

can do to two persons holding and it strikes an obstruction buried where

you want to put a post. I wont use one unless it is on a rig attached to

vehicle.....Killer machines.......treat wery respectivaly.

Looks good Macro - just sharpen the bottom edge, put in place a motion sensor & you can put away the axe for good.

re PHD
You could be right and that is my concern also.
I decided to leave original clutch in place and not to attempt connect shaft by direct rigid joint.
I am thinking also to add additional electric soft starter - similar the that in ordinary drill to avoid sudden torque at start and also to allow to apply power in controlled manner.
1600W that is a lot of electric power ( plus much more when overloaded) could be too much to handle.....
The main goal in my design should be instant release of power in the case drill stack...

That can be done easy.
I have similar for my fish tank already (when gone on holiday can take care better then your friend arranged to feed fish and water plants).
But at this moment I will not allow to waste this precious moment: the time you bring a food all this small creatures love you full heart

but in fact what I found Very difficult to automate is supplying pure water !
Drippers doesn't work for ducks and geese - so must be a bowl.
But that one must be emptied and cleaned every day - so quite hard to design self cleaning bowl.

perhaps a solonoid on each side of the bowl.
One, attached to a hole drilled in bottom of bowl, open to allow water out.
One, attached to hose, lets water in (from a retic system)
make sure the exit solenoid stays open for the first minute of water coming in so that it flushes out the remaining contents of the bowl.

Hey Macroscien,
A friend once had a heap of water bowls for his (many) birds; he set up an irrigation spray on each one and connected them all to a tap timer. When the timer turned the water on, it sprayed on an angle into the bowl and did a fairly good job of swirling the water around and cleaning it out.
Very simple and worked a treat. Hope this helps.

Btw, I like your 'chook door on a timer'. For a while I had a rooster in a soundproof 'night box' and was considering something like that to let him out in the morning.
