You must see the entire series of this seasons Extras as there is one episode that is dedicated to your exact point regarding people perception. Basically Andy (Ricky G) is hassled in the pub by a few fans wanting to hear "The catchphrase" which he instantly dislikes, he then goes to an uptown swanky bar where all the stars go & gets ridiculed by David Bowie. He of course slinks away back to the original bar to surround himself with adulation from is "real people". Truly awesome.
The BAFTA award's show is also pure gold.

I can see them at the weigh in, Blue team next, "Yeah, go Adro" n tense moments pass as the digital scales inexplicably oscillate up and down for 50 seconds to the sounds of "Who wants to be a Millionaire" thinkin music, and then, he whips out a knife and cuts off 10 kilos of porterhouse and stands there more and more limply and less and less weighty as the blood pools at his feet. N the crowd ROARS their approval. "GO ADROOOOO" and they all gather round his dyin body yelling paeons of praise and adulation to his corpse. And the voice over comes sedate and cool "This is totally unexpected. The question for the judges now is, does the blue team lose the entire weight of the demised and win the competition, or will they be disqualified for being one team member short?"
