I was wondering if there was a fishing forum on here and can't seem to find one?
I get out and about every once in a while for a fish in the bay, are there any of you readers out there that do the same?
Last week we went out @ 3am and hooked 1, 4KG snapper at around 7am. I was hoping to catch a few more but no luck. Also asking some other keen fishermen how they had gone and the answer was pretty poor.

Is there any spots that you can recommend in the bay? i have a few but am relatively new to fishing in these parts.

Look forward to a FISHING FORUM!!!

Cheers

There was, but they all got in trouble for catching dolphins and eating them so the forum got canned.

No pun intended

Sorry, Im talking about western port
There is a good spot near the sand bars on the southerly side of french island,
Almost straight out and to the left from corrinella boat ramp
Fish the channels in between the bars
Usually get snapper there If they're running

we also often fish near the old cerberus sub, behind the jetty (crib point)
And get elephant fish and snapper

Otherwise ask someone whose coming in as your leaving,

I love Crib Point, I think everyone is related in that town - if you know what I mean..... Lots of peeps wear homemade clothing and have webbed feet.

as long as you don't fish where i fish in Pt Philip, you'll have some chance of catching something

between portsea and mordy

nobody is going to give up their snapper spots. if you do hear of one it's probably a goose chase to throw you off. if you find a good snapper hole, keep it to yourself or before you know it there will be 30 boats parked there next time you go out...

What about from the shore on Port PB?

Have not caught one fish in the bay...... doubt there might even be fish in there.... plenty of rays, but don't want to catch one of those pleasant creatures....

Half Moon bay worth it? Sandy the fish monster has no such luck there.....

In QLD I'd get a bite straight away.... in the bay down here.... nuthin.... really annoying... such a nice bit of water but no fish....

one word: crowded.

For fun I like to ride down to the boat ramp and watch the action, some people really crack under pressure while reversing :) I reckon there is a TV show in that.

That supports my theory of fisherman being grumpy inpatient and abusive +1 and i though fishing was about relaxation.

It's about time someone comes up with a humane way of catching fish. A head shot with a harpoon is probably reasonable but hooking them in the mouth, dragging them out kicking and screaming to drown in a bucket of air is not very nice.

the first episode I watched down at Black rock the other day.... beautiful sunny day, boat trailers forming a que from the ramp to the top carpark, 15 + boneheads on there jet ski's line up in the water fishing boats in a line right along the pier with more arriving, novice trailer driver reversing taking 10 goes at making the ramp, whilst avoiding families, running kids coming back from the day at the beach, car horns, people yelling hurry up. Watching a bogun couple with their matching trailer/car/jetski, she was straddled the jetski revving the crap out of it whilst sitting mounted on the trailer and hubby bunny hopping the car out of the ramp area, apart from the potential from serious injury, the all encompassing pandamonium, the whole situation and episode was indeed riveting, with a little discreet incitement the area could have become an all in brawl.
I think the anticipation of the second episode will make it worth watching... 5 stars

Not sure about 'the bay', but if you head 4hrs to the West you'll get good size snapper, whiting, kingys, shark & tuna (when they're about!) Basically all Vic species, free ramp & 'rarely' any aggro at the boat ramp...(but still a good spectator sport at the ramp due to guys dropping boats on ramp, dodgy brakes etc.)

Or...get on a reputable snapper charter, and stick a small hand-held GPS in your pocket...just don't get caught as you'll end up as berley!

I've actually heard of a couple of charter operators that 'create' their own little secret spots (reefs) using discarded whitegoods, bikes, car parts & the like.

I am going to go with "there are no fish in the bay" as my conclusion......

Guessing over the old docks might be some bream with a decent amount of ecoli in them..... but that is probably it........

Only other creatures in the bay are the dolphins and rays..... and toadies....

What the hell happened down here? Over fishing? Lack of structures in the water? Pollution? Even Sydney harbour is more productive.....

Prove me wrong kids, prove me wrong......

there are plenty of fish in the bay, you just have to work a bit harder for them. no shortage of snapper, flatties, and squid.

it has been overfished for way too long. the trawlers ruined the bay ecology years ago by destroying the sea floor and development ruined natural fish nurseries

There is not much physical benefit from fishing or physiological.
To own a boat to catch a fish you need to deal with.

price of a boat and registration
maintenance costs
radio license
trailer license registration
fishing license
insurance
then you need rods reels tackle
And then you spend all day catching a whole pile of fish that you cant take home because of fisheries!
Yes id be a grump aswell if i owned a boat Im glad i sold my long ago.

Im sure there is plenty of other sites including Endlessmoneypit.com gooutonyahmatesone.com to join and talk about how big your fish and boat is..

And windsurfings a simple affordable sport

Boats are great fun - nothing like being out on a temperate day with the sound of the water lapping against the hull, a nice breeze, a cold beer (all legal kosher of course) and your gf sitting there in a bikini - life can be harder.......

I miss my old heron, but it was no fishing boat, but did provide for some social time on the water.... even in light winds... A half cabin is on my list for future purchases :P

I just want to catch some damn fish on the bay............ perhaps night time is more productive..... I did see Frankston was pretty good for garfish....
