I thought it was pretty rough on Harvey. He copped a big sword in the back. I hope he has a "Sword In The Back" clause in his contract, which gives him extra money. He deserves it. Did he have 1 more year left anyway... So he'll pick up that money at least, and have a year off....

So many coaching jobs available, I think Rocket Eade will get a job easily. Head coach, or senior coaching advisor, or Special Comments in the media.

Geelong - have you noticed The Lions Premiership Players floating around at Geelong. Scott, Nigel Lappin, & Blake Caracella.

(PS - you Rugby guys don't even need to post comments like - I don't care, I hate AFL, etc!)

As sent to the faithful but VERY long suffering Diver..

Myeh – it's a tuff one.

Ultimately I thought he did underperform overall but probably didn't deserve the axe this year with maimed cattle and a half interested captain looking after his real estate earnings.. and also have a jog around on the weekends.

Mate – it could be like rats off the ship with palmer gone too. Could get REAL ugly in next couple of months.

Hate to say it but the Dorkers have a real bad habit of shafting coaches.

Damian Drum had a worse injury run then any of them, season after season but had them moving towards the running game (as did Neesham) before half the Vicco idiots had seen the light. But the Freo brains trust (oxyverymoronic?) don't view a mumbling visionary with a wounded team very well down there.

In the 1st decade.. and a bit, the recruiting staff were often the lamest ducks too, and I bet half of them are still there and have Harvey's blood on their togas.

Maybe instead of TNT after the games they need to start playing Dirty deeds done dirt cheap?

Lyon is a better fit than Eade (my 1st thought was they will get Eade on hearing of Harveys late night appointment at the senate), but Lyon is used to having some talent at his disposal.

Could be a new challenge for him.

Watch how quick he starts highlighting the unfair travel schedule too.

I should read/watch the news more often. : (

Any bets on who the new captain will be?

McFarlane? (too old?)

Fyfe? (too young?)

Barlow? (Not sure he could stand the pressure.. badoom-tish!).

Mundy? (need someone who can play a season and not suffer Mundy-itis).

Ballintine? (er....)

Geez, it is slim pickings innit?

Freo desperately need someone who can turn a sow's freckle into a silk purse. And stand up to the idiots in the Freo orrifaces.

Forget finals, they need to go back to footy 1.01 from here. Auskick even..

Possibly the worst handled episode since Ricky Nixon and the lady from St Kilda

Business in general can be a tough enviroment, but this is immoral.

Where in a contract do sign away your rights to be treated like you are human being, with respect and appreciation for what he has done for the club under some pretty average circumstances and very average upper management.

Just imagine what it would be like to work for c??ts like that every day.

Freo "Crushed, Disloyal and Passionless". Oh when will they ever learn?

Sorry Harvs and thanks for your input. I feel ashamed and humiliated by the "Dockers'" administration.

Ross Lyon is a real piece of work.... (bastard!)

Here's some facts;
Apparently Lyon has been openly winging & whining about being hurt financially by the GFC (Global FC, not the mighty Geelong FC!). Which means he had poor investments/advice, lost money on stocks, etc. But if he had heaps of money in the market, it means he has too much excess money anyway....

Most Australian Workers in Ross's situation, who retained their jobs (like most of us), really felt no effect from the GFC, other than a dip in the old Super Fund, which is likely to bounce back anyway....

However, I also liked The Pain that Geelong FC dished up to Ross Lyon on a very cold day on the last Saturday in September 2009. Revenge was served up cold that day Ross !! Then there was a Collingwood double-header in 2010 Ross!

If I was a Freeo fan, I would withdraw/reduce my loyal support.

PS - This particular AFL coach is over paid, not the players.
PSS - a good player, just above average, playing for an average of 7 season, at $250k per season towards the end, and maybe $75k at the start... He would maybe extract $1.2M less taxes (over 7 years, plus 3 years establishment prior)... Above average guys can also easily get $1.2M in 10 years of work in many different lines of work. Considering what AFL players go through, mostly they are paid well, without being ridiculously over paid. Ridiculous pay is the boss of Telstra, and other CEO's who score big payments for not doing too much....

I thought the media had moved on from all the sleazebag tactics at media conference but nooo, they role out the old chestnut about loyalty honor and all that other bullcrap they come up with. They way they carried on, one would think Mark Harvey had been shot by Ross Lyon.
Ross was clever enough to spot a good deal and took it up
Harvey will survive, no issue there.
Only reason the media was pizzed orf, was they didn't know about it until it happened.
Football is a business, just like the NFL in the USA nowadays. Coach slips, and the board will terminate and replace overnight. Australian supporters need to come to grips with the fact that our home grown game has been stolen from us and rolled out each week as a "family entertainment saga" masquerading as a national sport

yep the media is taking the moral high ground here, the deal was done quickly and quite painlessly without the ongoing questions about tenure being emblazoned on every news paper for weeks, re Bailey etc, the way someone is sacked is never pleasant, but if Harvey had read the papers and had an understanding of this role then that comes with the turf, right or wrong, what its says to me is that Lyon's in control, has the ability and confidence to make judgement calls and that he would be a strong coach, Fremantle will benefit from this, the directions of the players and management are clear. bummer he didn't go to the Dee's

Good point but, the point is he did very little wrong.
Whats the point of having a contract in place, or even offering extended deals like that ,waste of paper ? All they do is ensure the financial security of the coach involved for the period

The example this sets the community is not great.

Everyone can treat everyone else how they want as long as some or all of the managment believe, rightly or wrongly that it is good for the club/business etc

Lyons is a low dog.

Despite his own rosy assessment of his actions and justification that he has a young family (and Harvey doesn't?) etc etc. He has acted in such bad faith (technicality or not) that he even cut his own management agency out of the picture and been dumped by them> No doubt he thinks that is a bonus as less commision. I hope he finds himself in court over it TBH.

Lyons' act is only equalled by the Freo board, but then they do have a habitual thing for treating coaches appallingly (regardless of the sh!t recruitment, rabble board and horific injuries).

Anybody remember how Damian Drum found out he was sacked? He was informed - on camera(s) - on the way in for a meeting by a rabid media scrum who had been told prior to Drum. That is completely lacking in sensitivity, professionalism..and class. Nice work Freo board.

The freo rabble board obviously haven't learnt or developed any higher aspirations than protazoic slime dwelling. Is it any wonder they can't get it together on the field with guidance from the top (bottom?) like that.

I shall be eternally grateful that I only take a passing interest in the disfunctional rabble from Freo and don't have my heart with that lot.

Feel sorry (really) for the fans.. they pay their membership $$$ year after year and stick by their side thru thick and (mostly) thin in the hope that a bunch of self elevated morons will stear the club in the right direction. False hope if you ask me.

4 yrs from now when Lyons is on the scrap heap he will have no pot to p!ss in from any other AFL franchise. And he deserves it 100%

What a bunch of kn shmucks Lyons and the FFC board are. They deserve to be in bed with each other.

I wonder how any coach in Harveys situation could be judged on this season. He had them in the top 8 for 2/3rds of the season and then the wheels fell off with a horrific injury toll. For the Freo board to give the excuse he "tried to rush players under an injury cloud back into the side early" surely that is up to the medical staff, who have the final say.
When are Freo going to get things right? They appear to be a bunch of amatuers grasping at straws. The rot starts at the top and if you watched good players like Pav seem to have lost interest towards the end of the season, it's not just the coaches fault, they need to look at the hierachy.

My missus has finally given up on em after this debacle. She isn't alone either.

The Freo players will no doubt put a brave face on it, but they must be gutted at the disgrace their board dished up to Harvey, who let's face it got them further up the ladder than they should have been.

And seriously I'd be surprised if half the Freo players don't think Lyons is a 2 faced, arrogant, dodgy **** too.
