Everyone, there is only 2 days left to email your opposition to the sand mine and development in Gerroa.
Even if you are in a different state you should appreciate what it would be like if your local spot was ruined - eg Windang. I have sent the following, very basic email to the following people:
Frank Sartor Minister for Planning:
[email protected]Michael Young DOP Mining and Extractive Industries:
[email protected]David Kitto Director Major Projects Assessments:
[email protected]It goes something like this:
I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed Gerroa Sand Mine.
My views are based on the proposed mine being in an Area of High Conservation Value which contains biologically important forests (I also believe that sand quarrying is not permitted within conservation areas under Kiama Council’s Local Environment Plan) that will be cleared due to this development. There is also a good chance that contamination of the Blue Angle Creek and Crooked River could occur which in turn would affect the endangered Swamp Sclerophyll forest.
The proposed Sand mine will threaten two significant Aboriginal archaeological sites that are presently identified for protection. This sand mine is not needed as there is ample sand available from Dunmore quarry and it will only spoil the scenic beauty and any future developments will affect the use of 7 mile beach.
Please accept this email as my opposition to the development.I don't know if it i'll do, but surely it's better than nothing! Feel free to copy, paste, slightly edit and then send it on!!
Cheers.
