I brought mine four years ago and I remember reading about freezing issues with these units on this site. The recommendation was to upgrade the firmware. I did this as soon as I got my unit, and in the four years I've owned it, I've never had a problem. The firmware on mine is V1.3 (B1015).
Landy PM Decrepit, he will have an answer for you, or post this in the speed sailing section, they have a solution for this. PS just noticed you have posted there already Regards
just had time to get just the right screwdriver in the tiny holes and open it up. disconnected battery and all seems well. i didnotice that it stopped reading distance at 13km but continued to display the speed(and changes ) and the time elapsed for another 18minutes or so . could a hard bump(pothole cause this?

It's a typical computer lock up scenario, who knows what causes it, (stray cosmic rays maybe?). As mineral says latest software is less prone to it.
Ive glued a silicon bed into the holder I madeon the bike handlebars, to see if the big sudden bump in the road at 13kms was the problem, but I will have a look atthe software. thanks for all the hints and suggestions
