I'll kick it off.
At least three times I can remember.
The first was flying out of Israel, a mate went into the travel agency and booked us a couple of flights, he came out and said "8 o'clock sat night" thats all that needed to be said, job done, and we went on with the rest of the day ( Ithink it was thursday). We sat round most of saturday and jumped on the bus about 5.30 pm. About half way there Greg gets the tickets out and notices it says, you guessed it 08.00hrs doh. So we went up to check in and as expected the lady says "this plane left 10 hours ago". So a night in the airport it was and simply got on the same flight on sunday morn. No extra charge, all good.

The second time I was working in Hong Kong and I thought my flight out was booked for four months after I landed. The job was running a bit behind schedule and I really needed to stay another month so at about 3 months and three weeks I went into the qantas office to alter my ticket when I was informed that "this flight left three weeks ago"! It was a three month ticket. So $30 and a new ticket was born. Time for me to start looking at the paperworh eh!

Number three, I was flying out of the U.k. and stayed at a mates house in London for the night.
Went out for an indian followed by a few pints, many pints. When we got home I booked a cab for 6am and booked a wake up call for 5.30am. Apparently the phone rang right on 5.30 and the cab was beeping it's horn at 6 but in an alcohol induced coma nothing was to be heard. I woke up at 7. This was Sat morning and the next flight to Aus was monday via amsterdam, but there was more flights to a'dam that day. So I jumped on a plane to holland and had a merry weekend with other friends before heading home.

Had to fly Pth to Karratha lobbed up at the check in for the 2pm Sunday flight to find that there was no 2pm flight on Sunday, showed the lady the flight scheldule where she politely pointed out (without calling me a gumby) that the flight was the day before.
She sent me over to the payments desk and got me sorted on the 5pm flight

Missed a Brisbane to Townsville flight by about 10 minutes once, that was annoying. Missed a Sydney to Brisbane by a day another time.

Back in the days of customer service and final boarding calls at Tullamarine I got delayed by kid trouble getting to the departure lounge. Got to the departure lounge with wife and three kids (all under 5), but the aircraft had left the terminal, completed push back and had started to taxi. Staff (Qantas) halted the aircraft, deployed the aircraft back stairs and got us all on board.

Never missed a boarding call since....

many years ago, mate and I heading to bali for two months (before they changed the visa)

got a lift to the airport off a mate and after many joints in the car park wandered into the check in.

mate forgot his passport. way too red eyed and hazy to deal with it and him trying to explain why he shouldn't really need a passport, I checked myself in gave him the mobile number of the guy we were planning on staying with while transiting through bali and said see you when (if) you get there.

so he catches the train home, gets laughed at by the boys for turning up at home two hours after he was supposed to fly out, grabs his passport and catches the train back to the airport (about 5-6hr round trip).

gets busted by airport security trying to sleep under the bridge at the georges river end of the runway and has to foot $120 to stay at the hilton.

stashes almost a quater, a lighter and papers wrapped in foil stuffed in a plastic bag in a tree in the airport grounds; grabs his passport and checks into his flight.

two months later we return surfed out and rice fed thin to find the bag still in the tree seemingly untouched.

we walk down to the river and roll joints and blow over the adventures still fresh and unreal.

the cops turn up and ask us what we're doin, I tell 'em we're just waiting for our lift home, they get back in their wagon and drive off.

not believing what just happened we grab our bags and board ladden airport trolleys and head back to the terminal for a stone fuelled feed.

After eating about half a dozen 8 dollar pies each we wander to the lifts in a silent stoner shuffle still in detached disbelief of the events of the last two months let alone of what happened since our return.

we stand in the lift sliently staring into the middle distance, after ten minutes or so I turn to my mate and say, 'man this lift is taking forever'

'I know' he says, 'man, I still can't believe we got indicators like that and that pot was still in the tree'

'yeah aye' I replied 'dude, you gotta press the button'

we had been standing motionless in a lift that travels exactly one floor for over ten minutes wondering why it was taking so long, when neither of us had even pressed the button.

me personally, I've never actually missed a plane but I've been told plenty of times that I've missed the boat....

Hmmm, I don't think I can top The Doctors wild adventure at the airport, but I think I am gradually getting better at not missing planes.

I think the first time I missed one was my first trip to Fiji. I missed it by about 20 minutes, but luckily(?) the travel agent had booked probably the most expensive economy ticket, which was totally transferable, and a small amount later I was on the next flight.

I also missed the check-in for my flight back from Perth to Sydney once and found out about VB's excellent deal where if the plane hasn't taken off yet you can book the next flight for a small amount. (That's a pretty good deal for someone like me...)

On a trip to Dahab, my mate's luggage had gone missing in transit, so when we met up to take the next flight a day later to go to Sharm el Sheik, we spent so long at one airport in Cairo trying to find his luggage, that we sort of missed the flight to SSH. When I say sort of, we missed the check-in, but the excellent but angry people at the airport held the plane for us, searched our suitcases manually, and then let us board. Great service, but still a little surprising.

Of course, when I went to leave Cairo to return home, I also almost missed my flight when the eftpos machine at the hotel I was staying at refused to take my money. It wasn't just one card, but something like 5 different eftpos and credit cards, and none of them worked. In hindsight it sounded a little sus, but I still don't know why they didn't work. They drove me to a nearby hotel that had an atm and that didn't work initially either. I tried to withdraw a smaller amount which worked, and then I did another withdrawal and the larger amount now worked.

Lesson learned - carry local cash to avoid this. Again, the people at the airport were angry, but checked my luggage manually and let me on. How good is that?

Forgot to leave Maui on 2005
Knew we were getting into Kiwi land on Friday, no probs, flight leaves Thursday night right? WRONG!
Bloody international date line.
Got up really early to catch the sunrise from Haleakala, came back, crashed for a few hours the headed off for a sail at Spreks. The plane from Maui to Honolulu we were ment to be on took off right over us.
Got back to the unit and the owner comes over and said "Weren't you ment to leave today?". Gave him a dazed look then check the itinerary. Aww SH ! T!
Luck we had hooked up with a local, Rob Funk, who told us to ring Hawaiian and tell em we got stuck in traffic from Paia to Kahului. $20 to change the flight Honolulu. We were on a round the world ticket for Honolulu - Christchurch, so no probs to change that one.
Another 2 days on Maui. Lovely

I haven't but, like FormulaNova, I came close and the people at the airport were fantastic. It was an overnight business trip to Melbourne with the boss and a few other guys. Leave Sydney early, work in Melbourne, stay overnight, more business then come home late the second day.

Good plan except our boss was a notorious late starter. The rest of us had got there and checked in with plenty of time to spare, sitting around drinking coffee. No boss. Now boarding... last call... announcements... still no boss. We're thinking we couldn't leave it any longer and are about to head off to the gate when we see the boss come bolting through the front doors and up to the checkout. They look at his ticket, take his bag and check him in in about 10 seconds flat. Off he bolts again and we all sprint for the gate. Along the way I saw someone come running out of the terminal, up to the plane. They open up the baggage door and this guy flings the bag up onto the plane. Meanwhile, we get up to the door of the plane where they rush us on board and shut the door behind us and the plane leaves the terminal.

Probably couldn't do that these days because (a) it'd take an age to get through the security checks and (b) check-in queues are so bloomin' long.

New girlfriend ( now bride to be 10 years later) so I planned a romantic weekend in Melbourne (and a visit to the 'G to watch Richmond).

I had done all the booking - but got the wrong flight time by half an hour

As we approached the check in I glanced at the ticket - realised my mistake and shamefully announced to the bride that I da #$%^ed up, BUT that i would sort it all out. Furious, she denounced my bravado (as in "mate your full of it") and I bet her I would have at demand bj's for life if I could sort it out(yeh I know its juvenile but it was the bunny rabbit stage of the relationship).

When we reached the check in I glanced at the monitor with relief before the attendent announced "your lucky - all flights to Melbourne have been delayed"

I smiled but that attendant never knew quite why I was smiling so much

Sadly the bet was renounced several days later when Richmond was beaten

Not so much missed plane - but missed opportunity

missed 2 flights.

1st: Thailand I was 19... spent my last couple $$ at the duty free, sat down waiting for boarding, started to watch some videos I shot, looked at my watch... HOLLY SH!T...

Airport Guy: sorry we called you, the gates are closed.
Me: but the plane is just there
Airport Guy: sorry we called you and now they're getting your bags off
Me: but it's just there open the door again
Airport guy: I'll call called the pilot >>> sorry can't

So now I'm stuck in Bangkok with no money... like $10... I managed to sell my Gameboy + smokes to the airport guy.

I then caught the 5 cent bus from the airport to Kho San road > where I knew this Thai chick who put me up for 3 days until the next flight.

==============================================

2nd time: 10 years later with the Mrs and Mum > Sydney airport to Gladstone Qld then to Heron Island.

The Mrs wanted Macas so we went there, Mum doesn't eat that stuff so she went to the gate.
We finished the burger then she want a Teddy Bear mobile phone cover so we chose 1 > then we missed the damn flight.

No more flights to Gladstone > tomorrow book too > so we managed to get a flight with Easy Jet to Brisbane > then Virgin to Rockhampton > when we got there all the car rental places were closed > no taxi/bus > next morning we drove to Gladstone > missed the boat > spent a day in Gladstone caught the next boat > Mum just continued to the original itinerary.

Cost us over $1000 extra.

========================
There was almost a 3rd time London > Sydney... I lost my passport in the Airport (WH Smith book shop) >>> I delayed the flight for 30mins >>>> Thanks for waiting ThaiAir
