I am planning a trip to hawaii.
heard maui (hookipa) should be great for windsurfing.
does anyone knows about the cheapest accomodation, car rental, dayly costs (food&fun), flight from australia (brisbane)...
Is it accepted to sleep in a van, can i buy a van as a tourist, camping?
Is july/august the right time to go there?
Do you know any place (private) to stay in exchange for some work (electrician)
All helpful information much appreciated

Banana Bungalow on Maui is good value, nice staff, pretty clean and an excellent spa in the garden for after a long windsurf. I also hired kit (the further from the date the cheaper you get) and a car. It wasn't too expensive - we found everything on the web.

Talking of windsurfing trips. I am very keen to go to lancelin at the end of the year some time. Any east-coasters want to join me?? I know a few of you guys already "want" to come. But who doesn't. Just to see how many guys wanna go.

Junior, you need to get a special permit to windsurf at lancelin. I think they have all been issued? Plus there are alot of sharks out there. Also freestyle is good at Pelican Point on the Swan River. Similar conditions to what your use to at the train

junior freestyle,

windsurfer aint lying!!! the policy was introduced by the council after the local folk became overwhelmed with trash from europe. it was everywhere.

The downside is the limited number of permits mean if your not from perth you basically cant sail.

The ranger has been waking up early and enforcing the policy strictly

Sorry

We're ok Leper. Because we live in queensland, we are all given special Peter Beattie passes that over ride all other permits. With one of these passes one can build a cruise ship terminal where ever one likes, and build a freeway through a national park full of endangered frogs. Looking forward to seeing you there

it's such a shame they had to start policing windsurfing beaches. You can always risk it, its only like a $90 fine or something. It aint that much.

You can maybe apply for a permit for next season, its somewhere there www.gingin.wa.gov.au/

Best of luck with it.

Would I joke about a thing like that? Simon and Haydz wouldn't lie about permits. I'm not kidding about the sharks either. That's more than an issue than the rangers. Lots of little reefies. The cray fishermen work this area. South passage and hole in the wall is their channel. sharks follow the boats in. I got a life time permit because my Dad's Uncle is a local cray fisherman and they own a clothing shop in Lancelin. We also have a family shack up at Wedge. Sorry dude. I think your best bet is to go to Hawaii on a budget. Remember it's not like the train
