Due to the complete lack of respect shown by teuros over the last few seasons, it seams that Stirling city council are going to take a stronger stance on beach carpark camping :)

If you live near the beach (hence in a council area with beach carparks in their jurisdiction) then can you please send a mail to them asking if they will be doing the same. If you are in Stirling, then send a letter of support for this initiative.
I have drafted some text for you to use (This is for Cockburn city council). Just cut and paste and send :)

Dear Sir/Madam,
Can you please advise if the council will be following the lead of the City of Stirling and impose greater penalties for those found camping in beach car parks. Propose penalties include impounding of vehicles, which I fully support. The imposing of harsher penalties will also provide economic benefit through additional income to the caravan parks in the area.
The last few summers has seen a massive increase in camping activities at beach car parks. Woodman point car park was full of faeces and rubbish left by very inconsiderate visitors.
Can you please advise how you will be addressing this issue. I believe a strong stance will provide economic benefit to both the council and accommodation providers in the area.

Personally I'd like to see an end to ferals washing out their cookwear and plates in the kn indoor/outdoor beach showers!! Gross!

Ditto for dune rabbits (used dunny paper floating around the dunes).

I can understand the attraction of dossing by the beach - rent free - but a lot of camper ferals just don't respect the area(s) and other beach users. They are bludging instead of forking out a small cost for a campsite with ablutions etc.

^yep, and Australia is not the tourist destination it was in the 80's, facilities are becoming run down and it expensive.

Totally against this. I think there is nothing better than finding a secluded beach and setting up for the night.

Went to NZ for a short stay, travelled in a camper, you are allowed to camp on public space like along any rivers or car park. Most town have dumping filling stations for camper vans and the spots are well advertised, what a great attitude!
The council's money grabbing attitude here is wrong. 15 years ago we use to go to Leeman and spend the weekend in the sand dunes; we were a group of friends and never left anything behind us. Now it is impossible because too many ar$holes behaved like pigs and ruined it for every one! Was easy for the council to go and tell would be campers to go away! If it had been policed properly in the first instance it would be a very different story.
There is an easy way to beat the rangers, just tell them you are too drunk to drive and see what happens!

No fkn way, are you serious?-more bull**** regulations-you can keep that in the city thanks.

I have a beach carpark in front of my house and the euro camper vans stop there at least one or 2 nights a week during tourist season.
They are no bother whatsoever, friendly but keep to themselves unless you talk to them and mostly unobtrusive.
The only time rubbish has been left is when either the council hasnt emptied the bin or some scumbag pinched it.

On the other hand local yokels do donuts in the gravel, light bonfires and set off flares in the scrub, scream thru the carpark on quads and dirtbikes, break bottles and are the only ones who make c++ts of themselves.

Ban everything-then introduce a licence for it, so you have to pay for it-great idea. I cant believe there arent quite a few people on here who havent backpacked around Europe, slept in train stations etc, nor that there are people who are ok with this.

It may suit your particular case where you are mate but to write to all councils suggesting that sort of stuff, sorry but its the stupidest suggestion I have seen here since someone posted about tying a bedsheet to 4 strings and being pulled along on a eskylid.

when i was a teenager my mates and i went on our first surfing road trip to phillip island. we camped in our vehicles at a deserted beach carpark after a few drinks.

the cops came by around midnight and told us we weren't allowed to sleep in the cars as it was against the local by laws, and we weren't allowed to drive anywhere under the influence. so every half hour until the end of their shift they came back to make sure we were awake, not drinking anymore, and not inside our vehicles.....

I've met some really nice people camping down at South Beach in the summer. Never saw any mess and definitely none of the loutish behavior you usually see from bogans on a Sat night in Freo.

as a ratepayer in stirling I am stoked to have the van dwelling touros at the beach. the only problem is envy when there are plenty of toilets around to stop people using the dunes how can anyone have a reason to want to stop this? you can park all day when it is busy but at night with few people around it is a crime to be asleep in your car????
the loss of the ability to enjoy our state without coin is a forgotten casualty of our oh so wonderfull "boom".

How weird... yesterday I was in the sauna at my local and this guy was complaining he had been fined by the council for having a nap in his car near the beach.

I think we should do away with councils and have volunteers... those FARKING councils are out of control.

Then 2-3 months ago the ripped it all out, concreted it all (SERIOUSLY), and put parking stations there!

NOBODY ever parks there, and few walk there, I would some times ride my bike there to work.
Now the concrete will absorb heat, it looks REALLY bad, and MY TAXES PAID FOR IT.
I stopped riding to work, cos there was no path, and it's still missing sections. Also they didn't do the draining properly so there's parts of it that haven't dried since the last time it rained.

DAMN THE COUNCIL.

Points taken on some of the pros to camping out in carparks (and yes the Contiki brigade have us in debt) but there are heaps of campers in and around scarbs these days. One or two would go unnoticed but a dozen setting up camp for a week is not on IMO.

For a few weeks in a row mid last Summer there was no less than seven vans set up at the southern end of Trigg 2nd car park. They had there vans long ways so that they could shelter from the SW'er - and a couple of them had a tarp strung between two cars - collectively taking most of the back row... pots & pans and deck chairs everywhere... having said that, I never saw any mess or any trouble and it was nice paddling behind one of the learner euro chicks

I always feel assured my car is safe with the backpackers doing their cooking cleaning washing drum beating as i go out to enjoy the SW'er.

I don't mind them camping out there so long as they leave the place tidier than when they came and don't disturb the locals any more than the drunk pr!cks from the pub do.
I even saw a few of them in the summer down at contos car park picking up rubbish on their way back from the beach.

The local reason carparks are popular and getting hard to stay in.
Off-season rates....


One good thing about the campsites is the number of permanents is dropping - it has been banned for a number of years.
